Recommended Posts

I"m finally going shopping tomorrow. Need to know the best turkey bacon to buy! I've been eating the regular bacon because of my BF... but i really have to stop that and get something leaner!

Any suggestions? Its hard for me to get Protein in the morn because well I do not like EGGS..I do not like cottage chesse... I do not like OATMEAL..blah... I do not like plain white milk. Hmmmm I have lots of DO NOT LIKE stuff! ahhaah

I love cereal...hmmm gramcrackers with Peanut Butter & nutella.. YUM YUM YUM!!!

TIA!

You need to read the labels, there is a LOT of variation. Turkey bacon can have more sodium and cholesterol than pork bacon, slice for slice.

Either way, enjoy occasionally in moderation, not something you should be eating every day.

yikes - bacon should come from a pig.

i LOVE bacon, just take the real stuff in moderation ... i tried a bunch of the "non pig" variety and it just seemed like salty cardboard.

I buy whatever Turkey Bacon is on sale and they have all been good. I usually can't eat in the mornings until after I have been up for at least 3 hours - so on the days I have to work - I'll drink a 1/2 of a Protein Drink before I leave and then usually a South Beach Cereal bar at work and string cheese (reduced fat). I'll save the bacon & eggs for dinner since I can get more food in at night.

Loves chicken sausage!

For people like myself, who dont eat mammals, poultry versions of mammalian favorites are the only way to go (unless you are a full veggie).

Of course you have to be okay with eating a certain amount of processed foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
