Officially in Bandster Hell

Recommended Posts

So I've been really lucky to have healed really well from my surgery with absolutely no complications. I never had gas pain, nausea or anything else that I've heard so many people suffer from after their surgeries.

That being said, I DON'T HAVE ANY RESTRICTION EITHER! If I let myself, I could keep eating and eating, and I could probably guzzle as much Water as I wanted to. I am still losing about a pound a week, but I'm afraid that will stop when I go back to a normal diet.

Anyway, anyone else in Bandster Hell? From these forums I've read it's pretty common, but I am wondering if there are any fellow August Bandits out there who are going through the same thing as me?

I can't wait for my first fill! Hopefully I'll feel at least a little restriction.

I'm right there with ya! I have NO RESTRICTION! I am hungry most of the time. Supposed to be doing three 2 oz. meals/day. Emailed my dietician and she says to now do six 2 oz. meals. Wish I could just do 4 oz meals three x's a day! Next week is my 1st post op and hopefully the doc will schedule me for my first fill! Good to know that I am not the only one in Bandster Hell!

BTW - I originally lost 18 pounds the first 2 weeks post op. I've put 3 back on but am holding steady now.

i dont have restriction either... the scale is slow... im afraid once i start reg food it will slow too. I guess why they say lapband isnt the easy fix... we still have to eat right and excer. i got to a sat support meeting.. some bypass patients have lost fifty pounds already. But in three years... we will be at goal..and they MIGHT be gaining.. thats what i hear anyway :w00t:

Glad to know I'm not alone. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one! Maybe we are just really good healers :w00t: Anyway, if it helps I read in a forum that during the time we are in bandster hell we have to work for our band (i.e. self-control), and then when we get to our sweet-spot our band will work for us. I'm trying my hardest not to go crazy, but I wish the pounds would shed a little more effortlessly, ya know?

I'm two weeks today, and while I feel like if I sat and ate I could keep going and going, if I keep what I eat to a min(I usually eat 1 can of cream of chicken Soup with different spices, twice a day) I feel full all day long. I get to switch to mushies today, so I don't know what I'll be eating now, but I had a 20g muscle milk light for Breakfast around 8 a.m. and am still full and it's 12:30 right now. I know I can eat and eat because my wife got Soups and salads for everyone the other day and I ate 3 good size soup servings and probably would have kept going but we ran out, I felt like crap about 20 minutes later but while I was eating there was no restriction at all. I've been losing steady, I'm down 20 pounds since surgery and 46 from my top weight, so I'm not too discouraged yet, I just wish I felt fuller sooner.

I'm with you as well. I'm STARVING! I'm tired as well from eating so few calories.

I had my 1 week post op check up and she said she would give me a fill in 2 weeks. These next two weeks are going to be soooo hard!!!

Today is my 1 week anniversary of getting my band. I think I'm doing OK. I find after about 60 - 90 minutes my belly begins to growl but if I have a little bit of liquid, even Water, it feels better. I'm just making sure I get at least 80g of protien every day.

I don't think we're supposed to have any restriction yet. Reading through some other posts it appears that it takes many people 2-3 fills until they really feel any restriction.

I find I'm getting about 600 - 700 calories a day on the liquid diet. (My doc wants me on that for 3 weeks before mushies.) Does that seem right to you folks?

Hey Abby.....

I'm with you babe! I've crept on about 2-3 pounds since I was able to go onto regular food..... however, those two gyro's on Saturday, at a food, music and art festival I went to on Saturday didn't help! I ate one there (took my time..... took me 4x longer than everyone else to eat it) and then we all got one for the road..... I ate mine hours after everyone else.

Anyway..... I'm not feeling restriction right now either.... I can definitely eat 2-3 cups of food at a time if I wanted to! However, when I ate the gyro, I certainly felt full. And stayed full for a while. Didn't stop me from eating chips and dip later though....

My fill is next Friday, and I can't wait! No restriction sucks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
