The diet...ideas?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone started the ten day diet yet? I am on day four, and it's hard, but I just have to keep reminding myself what I am doing it for. I know it won't be hard like this after surgery because I won't be hungry. Does anyone have any ideas for things I can eat (slurp) now besides Soup, yogurt, and pudding?

Hi there ! I was in the same place you are now ! day 4 was the worst but after day 5 it all seems to pass and you really dont mind as much. Every doctor is different but after I spoke with my nutrionist I was allowed to have 1 cup of veggies for lunch and 1 for dinner. Sautee a bunch of different veggies and added a tiny bit of mrs dash and a shake or two of soy sauce and you'll see what a wonderful dish it makes. Avoid potatoes and corn though too high in fat. Lentils make really good Soups and they're really high in Protein so you can try those too !!

Good luck ! You'll get through it and you'll be amazed at your pre-op loss !!

My first day was pure hell! After that meltdown, I've been pretty good. The biggest factor with my new outlook was finding a Protein shake that I liked. I'm doing the unjury shakes, and so far so good. I've been mostly using the chocolate flavor with either strawberry yogurt or milk. I've been using frozen strawberries instead of ice cubes and it tastes yummy. My other "go-to" recipe is the unflavored Unjury shake with crystal lite. Any crystal lite is OK, but I like the fruit punch kind the best. I just tried the chicken Soup flavor last night and that was also really good.

Most likely, I'll do a mix of the unflavored/crystal lite and chicken soup for after surgery. Best of luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
