Guest Kira M

I just found this site and I'm very pleased to be here. I am having a little trouble navigating, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it... eventually. :cross-eye

I'm 37, partnered for 7 years. We live with our 3 strange cats near Seattle, WA. I have been researching the band for nearly 2 years. I'm ready to move forward now. I have one last eval to complete before my paperwork is submitted to the insurance company. I have good coverage and I'm fairly confident that I will receive approval soon after the paperwork is sent.

I look forward to making new friends here. It looks like a very supportive community, and don't we all need that when we are going through such a transformation? I think so. OK it's back to lurking for me while I try to get a handle on this website. lol

Welcome Kira. I too hope that you get a favorable response from your insurance company soon. I live near Seattle (in Des Moines) and have been banded for 6 months. I'm happy with my progress thus far in my journey. If you need any advice or support, let me know. There are several support groups that meet around the NW, if you want some info on them please let me know.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I will be sure to update when I'm further along in the approval process. Corinne, I would love to hear about local support groups. I'm on the eastside in Kirkland.

Hope you all have a great day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
