Is everyone pretty much back on regular food now? I was given 'permission' for regular food at 1 month post op. I can basically eat anything now. But I haven't. I am scared to try some things. I haven't had a salad yet. Or any raw vegetable for that matter. I am still sticking to stuff I know I can eat. Most days lunch is about a quarter cup chicken salad and a couple bites of fruit. I am enjoying all the food I am eating, I am not bored with it. But I feel like I am still too chicken to try some new things.

I did make a meatloaf the other night and it was SO GOOD! I made sure it was super moist and I ate about a half thin slice. And I did have an old nutrisystem entree (lasagna with meat sauce) and it went down fine. That was my favorite dinner so I saved a few! I only ate a quarter of it. I served myself half and then couldn't eat it all. That is about the most adventurous I have been.

How about everyone else??? Are you all much braver than I am?

I was banded Jun 8 and started on solids about 3 weeks later. I slowly added in different solid foods, to see which I could handle. Up until my second fill, I was able to eat anything I tried (steak, calamari, shrimp, saladetc). Since the 2nd fill I have more restriction, and have to be more careful to remember to eat slowly & chew throroughly, as if I don't I will PB, even on items I didn't have a problem with before.

Okay, so I really don't have much restriction right now, except for breads, so I can't speak to this toooo much, but I will say that salads are the EASIEST thing for me to eat, and I'm thinking maybe it's because of the Water content in the lettuce and tomatoes (I'm a serious Tomato lover).

Anyway, I do much better with salads that anything else. Just more incentive to eat my veggies, I guess.

I have been scared a little too. I have stayed clear from red meat; kinda. I have had meatloaf, I tried a beef patty and vomited it all up. I only really ieat chicken and fish and lots of veg's. I want a hamburger so bad, but I know I can't eat the bun so I always just forget about it. We have Krystal's, (white castle I guess they have up north)down here in the South Love them so much !!!! but just hadn't had any. I have had salad and it was so good, but my tummy ached and cramped from it . so just not adventuring out much on the food chain. I worked in a oral surgeons office and we always get food brought to us,from referring docs. or patients. its so hard. but I'm almost 20 lbs down so far. 1 month out . I have a fill on the 9/9/09 I can't wait, my restriction is gone. I need it so bad.

I can eat anything. I also started out slowly, but if you chew it well and eat small bites, it's all good. Even after my first fill, I am still able to eat anything, however, I have noticed especially in the morning, I really have to do small bites and chew well and swallow slowly. Hey and that is the idea. I was sort of afraid of some of the veggies too, but then I wasn't getting enough Fiber and I don't want to supplement all that all the time, so I started eating more veggies and it's helped a lot. Protein, veggies, starch. Salad is a slider food for some people, but if you aren't eating a lot of dressing with it, I don't see anything wrong with that.

I found a "bun" for hamburgers or sandwiches that I can actually tolerate. Orowheat makes it. Its called sandwich thins. They look like a hamburger bun but they are about 1/4 " thick. Its like 70 calories for the entire thing. I get the bread taste without feeling like its stuck. Another trick I have done for eating hamburgers is to use lettuce as a bun.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
