pnksteph 0 Posted August 25, 2009 So I am only 19 days post op and I have really been obsessing over not losing more weight. Currently, I have lost 10 lbs since the operation and 5 in the pre-op diet, but I have talked to several friends that have had the procedure and they lost like 20 lbs the first few weeks (similar weight & size to me) so I was getting super depressed. I finally had my husband hide the scale on Saturday night. Silly as it sounds, I feel like a big weight (no pun intended) has been lifted off of me. I am going to weigh in once a week and do measurements as well to see my progress and to (for once in my life) not worry so much about numbers and focus on how I feel. Just wanted to share whats worked for me so far!
onikenbai 33 Posted August 25, 2009 The scale can be your worst enemy if you obsess over it. Plus, muscle weighs more than fat, so it's completely possible to gain weight over time as a GOOD thing. If you're working out and building muscle you may not see a loss in the scale department but you will see it in the butt of your jeans. Long-term trends are what's important, not the day to day fluctuations. Obsessing over the scale number just gives us a new obsession now that our obsession with food has taken a hit. tvlbunny 0 Posted August 26, 2009 I know exactly what you're talking about. I was banded the same day as you, I didn't have a pre-op diet so I gained weight prior to surgery I've lost 10 pounds since but nothing in a week or so. My scale is in my bathroom so everytime I go potty, which is a lot thanks to all the Water, it screams out at me to hop on Clearly I need counseling or an exorcism for my scale. Oh and some antidepressants for my anxiety/depression caused by my lack of weight loss...OMG, I'm falling apart.

onikenbai 33 Posted August 26, 2009 Dude, the antidepressants don't help, trust me. If anything they tend to pack it on you! I think I was on the amitriptalyne only 1 day before I scarfed down a whole loaf of bread. They turn you into a not so selective cookie monster.
bookwormswot 0 Posted August 26, 2009 I was also banded July 29 with no fill. I lost 17 lb pre surgery and then 3 lb during liquids which was depressing. And then I gained 1.5 pounds when I went to mushes, which my dr. warned would happen. But once I was eating solid food regularly again, I lost 4 pounds in one week. My dr said that with liquids, we get so little calories that the body holds on to everything. Same with mushies. We are getting some food but still not enough and the body has been in starvation mode having just gone through 4 weeks of liquid diet. But once the body realized it was getting real food on a normal basis, it relaxes and stops trying to horde all the calories.
