flab2fabdiva 0 Posted August 25, 2009 Has anyone heard of anyone developing bulimia after weight loss surgery? I mean...you are making your stomach "smaller" making it difficult to get food down. Where else can it go but up...right? Just wondering if anyone has had this experience..... Happy Tuesday! :-) Flab2fabdiva's Blog
Swsaradee 1 Posted August 25, 2009 I became bulimic two to three years after my first surgery. The band was doing its job but I began to binge eat again. I would eat until I was full, purged and ate some. It's definitely not something I am proud of but I have been in recovery for almost three years. Just wanted to let you know that it can happen. AlaskaGirl77 0 Posted August 25, 2009 Have you tried googleing it? I know I read an article written in Australia about it being not so uncommon after the band. I hope you find the answers you need. I'll surf around and see if I can find it again...i did originally get the article off of this bored..
flab2fabdiva 0 Posted August 25, 2009 Wow. Yeah. Thanks for sharing and for the info. I don't consider myself bulimic but I know that it can happen. It's a hard complicated thing.
BellaPerdente 0 Posted August 26, 2009 My daughters call me bulimic but I only purge when I am uncomfortable. I try not to overeat but I am very restricted and have a hard time eating slow. If the food goes down good, which I hope it does...then I am fine.
isaviolinist 11 Posted August 26, 2009 This is not my issue, but a friend of mine knows someone who goes to overeaters anon with her that had this issue. This particular person had lapband, would binge, and then throw everything up. She is very seriously addicted to food. She started going to OA and is doing MUCH better now. It is really unhealthy and can lead to complications with the band and other things.
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted August 27, 2009 God bless anyone who has bulimia, and God double bless anyone who has it AND the lap band (esp if it is well restricted) Besides the fact that frequent vomiting (even if it's a PB) can cause a slip, for me at least being stuck HURTS. Sometimes it hurts like HELL! I can't imagine trying to make that happen. That's like cutting or something; beyond my understanding. I guess it can happen, but wow. Ouch. and danger danger....
