Flipped port.....

Recommended Posts

So i went to the Dr. today for what would have been my second fill. But....I found out that my port has flipped . So needless to say, I left without a fill. Now I have been fully educated and I new ths was possible complication but as anyone would I had hoped it wouldn't happen to me. And I've been on such a roll and so focused to make this a success that it has kinda put me in a down mood. I am waiting for pre-approval to go back in and re-secure my port. :) And it's back to surgery....at least it is minor. I'm trying to count my blessings, I know it could be worse. In the meantime, I'm going to stay focused, steer the course and face what I have to face!! I'm still bound and determined to make his journey a success!! I just had to get that out there!! Best wishes to all you wonderful people!!

Hang in there I had a flipped port that was repaired in early March of this year so I know where you are at. I am now dealing with a leaking port that I am having repaired on Thursday so you must stay the course. It is not if you will have complications with the lap band but a matter of when. Some have more complications and at an earlier time than others.

Thank you for your reply. And I'm sorry to hear about your complications. I know your right, complications are inevitable at some point. Can I ask, how was the experience of the repair? My doc said that they just re-open the incision near the port, flip the port and re-secure it. But I guess my apprehension comes from the fact that to me it's surgery again! How was the recovery? Did you have to take time off of work? I mean longer than just the day for the procedure..... And do they have to fix the leaky port the same way? I guess I know the answers to these questions....it's just nice to hear feedback from someone who has been there.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I was put to sleep for the flipped port but when I woke up it was like I never had anything done, healed fast and great. When I started having problems with this leak he went back in at end on June and tried unsucessfully to fix it and that was with a local, other than some tugging and pulling was fine just a little stressful on my nerve cause I am a nurse so I knew what he was doing. I am goin tomorrow for the port replacement so I will let you know how that goes. I will get this thing right if it is the last thing I do.

My port flipped as well. I still don't have a reason as to why, but I did have it fixed this past July. It was WAY easier than the first surgery. Just a few days and I was doing what I wanted minus lifting and too much bending. I wish you luck with everything and keep your hope strong. I started to lose hope and went into a downward spiral and gained some weight back so try to stay positive!

Happy :) to report that I had my port replaced on 08/27 and it is working great at the moment. I have a good fill after being empty for months now. I am adjusting to not eating much, I forgot how hard it is to live with a tight fill but it is great and woudn't trade it for the world.

I am glad to hear that everything went well for you!! I am still waiting for insurance approval to schedule surgery to have it repaired. But in the meantime I am proceeding ahead with my healthy food choices and exercise....keeping my chin up!! I have a greater goal!! Best wishes! Thanks to all for your support!

In that respect, it was a good thing that I was self pay because I could just go ahead with things. However, it has cost a lot of money total, but I am VERY lucky that my parents have paid for everything. I'm not sure where the post went because I've been on vacation, but I think that someone asked me about my incision. My doc just used the old incision site and it actually looks better than the old one! Isn't as bumpy. He didn't have to go into the muscle he said. I have good restriction now...I feel like the band is actually working!

I have the Lap Band. I have heard from one doc that the Realize has a better attachment for the port, but I am really not very educated on the pros and cons of both types.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
