First Fill Experience and Band at an Angle?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am five weeks from surgery today and had my first fill today under x-ray. It was painful and I bled everywhere...no hint of lidocane... She first took out everything I had to measure and I was surprised it was 3ccs, she then put all of that back in, added 2ccs, had me swallow contrast and then added .6cc more. So I have a total of 5.6cc in my AP band after my first fill. Does that seem high to anyone else? I expected the band to be "primed" but 3ccs seemed high to be in there initially. How much does it take to prime the band?

Also, I was surprised to see that my band was at an angle as I thought it was supposed to be perfectly horizontal. She assured me that it looked perfect and that my surgeon put it in that way...anyone else?

liquids are going down fine so I don't think I'm too tight but it definately feels different. Restriction I guess.

Anyway, here's to keeping up the loosing streak! :)

To fit the contour of your stomach correctly, it would have to be on an angle, not perfectly horizontal, so that would be right.

As to how much is in your band, if you've had no trouble with it, then its not too much for YOU so I wouldnt worry. Everyone is completely different in how much restriction they can handle.

DH has had one fill where he bled everywhere, it was weird. It was his first fill, perhaps there was a small seroma there or something, its never happened since.

Thanks for your response. Glad that doesn't sound completely off. I'm going to prop myself up tonight for sleeping to try to avoid any heartburn issues.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
