Parvathi's Medium Paced Loser NSV List ...lol

Recommended Posts

Well, I've lost fast enough to ensure that I'm not allowed entry into the slow loser club lol, but that doesn't mean I'm completely satisfied with the speed of my weight loss. Are any of us? lol ..its definitely slowed in the past few months anyway.

In any event, I love the idea of keeping a NSV post, just to remind myself of what I've accomplished to date, so here goes. Hope this isn't stepping on any toes :/

  1. I've went from a tight size 22 to a tight size 16.
  2. I put clothes on lay by, in sizes too small to fit me and when I pick them up 3 months later, they fit or are too big! heh (I used to buy stuff I liked that was too small, promising myself I'd get into it soon and it never happened)
  3. When flying, I had a good 6 - 8 inches left on the end of the seatbelt, in economy.
  4. I can keep up with my 7 year old - even out walk her on some days.
  5. I'm fitter than I've ever been.
  6. I can walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I'm going to pass out.
  7. My sleep apnea is completely gone!!!
  8. My cholesterol is perfect.
  9. My blood pressure is perfect, perhaps even a little low.
  10. I weeded my garden for 4 hours straight, with no knee or back pain (or laziness kicking in).
  11. I can walk into a regular clothing shop and fit into the largest size they have (16, although its still tight)!!!
  12. I can walk with my head held high, down the street and I don't hear voices in my head, making me think people are talking about me.
  13. For the first time in my life, I weigh less than my husband. I've always been at least 5kgs heavier than him. Now I'm 27kgs lighter than him!!
  14. My wedding dress is too big for me.
  15. My wedding ring is too big for me.
  16. My daughter constantly tells me how great I'm looking now and how proud of me she is.
  17. My mom brags to her friends and family about my weight loss (something she would have never done in the past).
  18. My self confidence is at an all time high.
  19. And last but not least .. I now have more good days, than bad days :(
  20. The past three days, its been warm so I've worn my comfy long flowing summer skirts. My thighs didn't rub together and chafe!!! They didn't even tough a lil bit. This is a first, for my entire life!!! Gonna go stock up on more of these lil beauties lol.

Thanks everyone!! Vinesqueen truly is an inspiration to me and many others.

Making this list really made my day yesterday - I was in a great mood the whole day through. I'm sure that if I come back here and read it when I'm feeling down, it will help as well. I'd say to anyone who's feeling like they've not accomplished what they had hoped in regards to the band, to do this. You'd be surprised at how far you've come :(

Jachut, lol, you're so right about the conversion thing. Anytime my family asks me how I'm going, I tell them I've lost x pounds and have y kilos to go hehe. "I need to lose 20 more kilos" sounds heaps better than "I need to lose 44 more pounds" lol.

A new one :D

Today, for the first time in 8 years (since before my daughter was born), I'm wearing shorts. And they look good lol. Still need to work on my thighs hehe, but that's okay - I've got a lifetime :(

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
