Anyone banded on or around 6/30/09...just wondering

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded on 6/30/09 and I have lost 24lbs and had my 3rd fill today. Just wondering how many fills everyone had and how much weight everyone lost that was banded around the same time. Thanks!

Hi URS. I was banded 7-1-09, I have also had 3 fills and have lost 25 pounds. It sounds like we are running pretty close together. I didnt have any restriction until after 4 wks but since the first I have had a 3 fills. I think I would have done much better if I would have started exercising sooner but just started getting serious in the past few days. I found a thread on here called "August Mile Challenge" but it goes from month to month so I joined with them so I have someone else to be accountable to and keep me on track. Please let me know how you progress. I think it would be nice to know how others banded close to the same time are doing. Good Luck!

Melinda, I've lost 47 pounds so far. And my BMI has dropped from 45 to 36.9. But what I've found is that everyone loses at their own pace and I still have a long way to go! Good luck in your journey.

Melinda it sounds like you and I are neck and neck. Good to know, I was wondering if I was on track! When did you get your 3rd fill? I got mine yesterday. Ended up throwing up after my pills and Water this morning!

Hey Less...you have lost quite a bit, was some of it pre-op? No wonder why you didn't get a fill, your losing fast. Good for you.

Lets keep in touch!

Good luck to you guys!

Urs, I started out at 262 that was on June 1st, so I guess I'm counting the amt of weight I lost from when I started the pre-op diet.

The day of my surgery I was at 253 so since surgery I have lost 36 pounds, so I guess we're all pretty close to the amt of weight lost.

I guess I list my starting weight at the weight I was when I started the pre-op diet simply because for me, to see those numbers it helps me in reaching my goal, and the day I started the pre-op liquid diet is the day I count as me starting my journey to a healthier, and thinner me. Does that make sense?

Good luck to you!

I was banded 6/24/09 and I have lost about 37 lbs. I have had one fill and I'm seeing my doctor for a possible second fill next week. Sounds like we are all on our way to where we would like to be!

I was banded on 7-22-09 and have lost 29 lbs and 16 since the banding. I have been really happy with this and am having my first fill on 9-8-09. I will have the fill but am kind of thinking how can I loose faster or easier than I already have? I am not hungry. Any advise?

Hey URS99, When I got my first fill my surgeon told me that I may want to try to stay on just liquids for the rest of that day (most of the time I can eat something small and soft) but I am tighter in the mornings than any other time. I have seen on this site that several people have said that they are tighter in the mornings so if there is anyway that you can change the times that you take your meds to early afternoon that would probably help. I wanted to be down at least 30 pounds by my two month mark but I dont know if that will happen...I only have a few days left. I felt better today about my loss, when I put on a pair of jeans they fit much more comfortable than before surgery. Good luck, please stay in touch to let me know how you are doing.

Urs, I really don't have a secret. I eat only 3 times a day.

I usually have Breakfast at around 7:30 in the morning (I have to leave early for work) my Breakfast consists of 1/4 cup egg beaters, 1 ounce lean ham, 1 ounce 2% milkfat cheese cut into cubes. I slice of Sara Lee whole wheat toast with a spray of I can't believe it's not butter.

Lunch: I'll have 1 cup egg drop soup; 1/2 cup 1% milkfat cottage cheese; 1 2% milkfat string cheese.< /p>

Dinner: It usually consists of 3-4 ounces of roasted chicken breast. 1 1/2 cup chedd airs (it's an organic soy snack) and 1/2 of a small nectarine peeled. (I usually can't eat all of this food though)

Before breakfast I have 1 cup of Decaf coffee, and before bed 1 cup decaf coffee.< /p>

During the day I drink anywhere from 4-6 16.9 ounce bottles of Water.

Also I allow myself at least 20 minutes for my meals. I usually don't go over 30 minutes. I also chew, chew, chew!

Good luck!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
