worried band is not working :(

I want to say that after reading these posts I feel almost normal - I am 1 month out - today - I have lost 13 pounds, The dr. didn't do a fill because of the weight lost - but the 13 pounds I have lost were in the first 2-3 weeks. NOTHING in week 4. I am so frustrated and I was really beginning to think all of this was for nothing. I have an appointment in 2 weeks - I am pretty sure with the no weight loss I will get a fill. I can't wait for that light bulb.

ok this explains alot,I still have questions though. I am glad I found this, I just startes a thread on this and similar topics, what and how much fo you eat.

I haven't had a fill yet as its 4 weeks after my op, I started off with 2ml which was put in when I had the op. but I can eat a meal with ease, I don't get full and a few nights I have lost my will power and binged. I know it takes time until your fill is correct but surely I would still be struggling to eat big meals. I am really worried as I think maybe my band has slipped......Can anyone relate to this???

Wow you had bread? I have yet to have bread, Pasta, or rice. I'm way to scared. I love sushi and went for the first time today, I just took the fish off the rice.

From my understanding you shouldn't have processed carbs for 6-8 weeks after surgery. I'm new to this too, but when I get that hungry feeling, I try to eat Beans, soft cheese, or anything with a lot of Protein. Good luck!

I'm 2 weeks post-op and am allowed to have a slice of bread, toasted. I've only done it once, and it was fine. Maybe it won't be something I'll be able to have after my first fill though.

Every doc has their own guidelines. I was allowed to have toast 3 weeks out.

well weeks 4&5 said regular foods, I may have rushed it a little, but no problems with processing, I have had rice too, and raw veggies which were supposed to be last. I didn't mean to rush, clearly I have food problems, controll problems, probably an addiction to said food....

I don't know what Im' doing half of the time, I'm just trying to do my best. I figure the swelling has gone down and I have very little restriction. I don't even know if there is any Fluid in there.

My Doc did things a little different, I got on the plane and headed home and was told to wait for the surgical report to take to the fillcenter. The report is to come in the mail. It didn't so I called two days agoe and they said they would resend it. But I do have some cool pics of the Allergan band and a hernia he fixed while he was at it...

Sorry it's 4:06 am and my mind is wondering. My point was that I thought I was takeing it slow and I have not vomited or productive burped yet. I think it's a little different for every one as to their tollerance for different things. I'm no MD though and If I'm doing any thing dangerous, please call me out on it, cause it was crazy expensive and I would hate it if I wrecked it because of a lack of patients.

On the up side I do stop eating when full, and it is faster than before, and to be honest in the past I may have gorged and not felt full untill I reached that sick feeling, to be totaly honest the binging was realy bad pre op, I am realy glad to have this band.

A better choice than bread would have been a Protein Shake. You probably haven't damaged your band but you do need to be careful about what you are eating/drinking right now. You need to let your site heal. Bread is hard on some people that have been out longer than you, some never have it again. A good rule to remember now is that your stoma is about the size of a dime and food has to pass thru it. Oh another good thing to remember....chew, chew, chew

People keep saying "I can't wait for my first fill" well not to burst any bubbles but I felt no restriction at all until my fourth fill. I'm lucky to have a doctor that lets us come in anywhere from two to four weeks for each fill, so I just had my fourth fill and had surgery on June 11th. I just want people to know that realistically though you may feel some restriction with a fill, it is not the norm and you just have to keep using your willpower and common sense when it comes to eating healthy until the band starts to work. I mean you still have to follow a healthier lifestyle after that, but I don't want people to get discouraged if they are thinking they will feel a good restriction after one fill. It is possible, but not probable. Give it time...it will come.

Great advise. I certainly don't feel much restriction after my first fill and have already scheduled the 2nd. I suspect it's going to take a few until it gets where I need it to be. I'm not very good with control either.

For me - my second fill was the 'sweet spot'. If something feels stuck-it may just be uncomfy for a while-if it is stuck - you will do what some call PBing or productive burping-my experience is heaving, and coughing until I puke. But-it's not that easy to mess up your band-so ask your doc if you're really worried but you are probably just fine. I was starving until my first fill. BTW-crackers are easier to chew enough-stay away from bread and steak.

thanks for all the advice, will keep my meals light and healthy which I have been doing 95% of the time and hold on for my fill which I can book in 2 weeks..................After reading all the posts I feel really positive again so thanks:thumbup:

have been keeping my willpower up, still give in now and again but will be callin gmy doc next week for my first fill:mellow:

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
