I see it as just about everything we eat has something artificial in it. Even fresh fruit you buy. Did you know it has artificial color on it to make it look more appealing? So that red apple you buy has been painted with more red color to make you buy it!!

I buy organic

I have never heard of Splenda giving you gas. The Sugar Alcohols like sorbitol, manitol, etc. can give you terrible gas. A lot of things that say they have Splenda in them on the front of the package actually have a lot of sugar alcohols. These are not low calorie, but do not digest like sugar and do not cause a spike in blood sugar, so they are used by diabetics. Most of the sugar free candies have this in them, even though they say "Made with Splenda".:)

I see a neurologist, and he has said that in general, artificial sweeteners are not good for you. So I do try to do real stuff in moderation, however, now that I have the band, there are no guarantees what I will do, right? I will still try to stick with the neurologists suggestions.

My grandmother used to say, if one thing doesn't get you, another thing will!

Sugar. Sugarsugarsugarsugar. I can't stand artificial sweeteners and really try to stay away from sweets in general. I drink my tea unsweetened and Water mostly. coffee gets sugar, though :frown:

Too much splenda gives me headaches, equal gives me joint pain. But, I don't have any issues with Sweet N Low.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
