I was told to wait at least 3-5 days, and that I had to be off of the pain medications.

Well, my doctor did not give me any restrictions and I drove my son to school the next morning.....not that I wasn't sore.....and I discovered just how many stomach muscles are necessary to get in/out and apply the brakes......but as long as you're not still on painkillers (I switched to Tylenol as soon as I got home)....you should be able to drive very quickly.

Surgery on Tuesday, drove on Wednesday. But, I never took any pain meds. That would be a deciding factor, and I probably wouldn't try driving in heavy traffic the next day.....

I drove the second day after, but I also had to stay overnight 1 night. Surgery on a Monday drove on Wednesday.

Well it's been a year and I can still drive. (j/k)

Once you're no longer taking narcotics, unless your doc advises otherwise you should be ok to drive. Unless it is an emergency I'd give it a few days, just for the comfort factor.

I drove the day after. It was only to the school busstop and back but I felt fine. At first when I asked the Doc he said this could be a bit early but to go ahead so long as I felt fine. I drove as soon as possible after my 2 caesars as well and had no problems. I went back to work about 6 days after the LB surgery and had a round trip of 90km. I felt fine.I think the main thing is to only do as much as you are comfortable with.

I also have an automatic car so that may make a difference.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
