Any Regrets After Lap Band?

Recommended Posts

I am seriously considering lap band. I have been reading and gathering alot of information on this site. I appreciate all the information available here. I noticed a huges percentage of "banders" who are happy with their decision of lap band. Is there anyone here or knows of anyone who Regrets getting the lap band?

I have submitted my paperwork to the surgeon and I am awaiting an initial consultation appointment. Thanx much!

Welcome, Sammy and good luck with whatever decision you make. My only regret is that I didn't have the procedure years earlier. The lapband, along with my will to make it work, has improved my life in ways that I cannot describe. I am the happiest that I have ever been and I feel so very healthy. I know that I will be around much longer now. If you have any questions, I will be glad to help you the best that I can.

Good luck.

Thanx for replying "mum"! I truly appreciate the encouragement. I see you are almost at your goal! CONGRATS!!! And best of luck to you!!!! I've been battling constant weight gain for years. I've had multitudes of tests (including the REE tests for measure caloric expenditure by exhaling) and my endocronologist diagnosed me as have a very slow metabolism. I am disciplined in eating healthy and exercising (love step aerobics), but my body doesn't want to give up the pounds! Just last October, I joined a fitness club. I exercised 5 days a week (M-F). Three of those days were 30 min with an EXPENSIVE personal trainer for 30 minutes and an addition 40 minutes of step aerobics. The other two days, 45 minutes on the olyptical and a medium pace. Only to GAIN 6 pounds and for my clothes to SCREAM at me!!!! Uuuugh! That is when I stopped going to the gym and I quit my personal trainer. I am so discouraged right now. I am hoping if I go the lap band, I can actually see the scale go to the Left instead of always to the Right!

Sorry, thanx for listening to my whining!

I was just banded this past June (the 3rd week of June), but so far I have NO regrets whatsoever. I am almost 50 pounds down (1/3 of my excess weight!!) and will go for my second fill tomorrow. I have little to no restriction now, so the first 50 pounds I kind of did myself. I'm hoping the next 50 will come off as quickly as the first 50! I have no regrets and am feeling better than I ever have, and am SO looking forward to being thin and healthy. I already have stacks of catalogues that I'm going to order from when I get to my goal haha! Clothes that I've always wanted to buy but never could because of my weight. Very excited! Good luck with your decision!

No regrets on my part. I was banded on 7/7/09 and have lost 21 lbs. I am going to get my first fill soon, I can't wait! Like the others, wish I had done it A LOT sooner. I am so excited for you! Best of luck on your journey.

A piece of advice...

Start the process, even if you are not sure, it will decrease your wait time if they make you go through a supervised diet and exercise program. Mine took 6 months.

My only regret is waiting as long as I did to get the surgery. Lap Band has worked great for me. I am no longer taking Metformin, my PCOS seems to be under control, I exercise, and have learned to eat healthier.

Hey Sammy,

I do have one regret, like Michelle and a lot of others, I wish I had done this years ago! Instead, I was yo-yo-ing ( is that a word?) all over the place. I am glad that you are going to have this done while you are still young. I am glad that I finally decided to do it, and at least the rest of my life is going to be a lot better!!! I have not had my first fill yet, but am going to on 9/8 and can't wait. I am already down 27 pounds and feel better already. It took me longer to recover from the actual surgery, but boy am I glad I went ahead and took a chance.

With your motivation and willingness to add exercise to your daily routine, I have no doubt that you will be one of the great success stories. Please keep us posted as you travel down this road!!

I fear being bashed for this...but it hasn't worked for me. I was banded July 1608. I've only lost 20 lbs. I don't know if something is wrong? As I've had a personal trainer, I lost inches, gained muscle tone, but didn't lose a single pound.

I regret spending 16K on it. I feel it is one of the worst AND most expensive mistakes I've ever made.

Sorry if that angers people on here, but I think that I should be allowed to say the Lap band can and Does fail and not because the person with the lapband IS NOT trying.

I think there are a LOT more people out there like ME who are just scared to admit it didn't work for them. Why? I don't know? I truly do not know. All I figure is that if you do Not put yourself (or at least me) on a continual LIFETIME diet, you are going to Fail.

What I spent 20K to learn was: There is NO magic cure, you diet, you exercise, you starve= THIN. Anything else = FAT.

Hi, I was banded on 7/29 and have lost 18 pounds. I have no restriction so every pound I lost myself, which I am so proud. I started the procedure last year and chickened out. My only regret is that I went through it a year ago and didn't lose another year of my self esteem! I know once I get my first fill, I will start losing more and no one/nothing will stop me....

I am 6 weeks post op and I do not have any regrets. I agree with almost everyone else I wish I would have done this sooner. This is a very workable lifestyle it justs takes some effort. It is not something that you have to think about 24 hours a day, it does not become your life it adds to your life and helps you reach your goal. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to really change how they view food. Hope that helps

So sorry that the Lap Band did not work for you. What does your doctor say? Why does he say that it didn't work?

I am not banded yet. I am wanting to, but I am totally self pay and don't have the money yet.

I am not sure you should rely on this information, their not even sure how much they paid. Some people just like to make you think what they say is real. Research it really good for yourself and then research some more:rolleyes:

I got my band in April 09 and I have no regrets. Yes like all the others I wish I had it done sooner. I have very little restrictions and pray that I don't have any issues down the road because I would hate to have to have my band removed.

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I would be at goal or beyond now if I had. I'm over 1/2 way there and looking forward now to being under 200 lbs with only 13.3 left to reach 199.9 and I cannot wait. Best wishes in your decision making process.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
