Final stretch..I hope

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My journey began January of 08 when I began researching LapBand surgery. I was ready to go forward when I was blessed with an unexpected pregnancy. She is now 7+ months and I am completing my 6 months of nutritional counseling. I had some problems with billing (docs office was not billing as nutritional counseling but physical exam) and hope that that will all be resolved quickly.

My weight prior to counseling 306, 4 + months later 286. I am 5'5, 32 yrs old and have battled weight my entire life. After the birth of my first child I did not loose the 50 lbs I gained, after the 2nd child I did not loose the 40 lbs, and after the 3rd... I have finally taken off the 20 lbs I gained with her. My goal weight... maybe 150 I have not been that in so long I don't even know if it is possible. I will be satisfied with healthy but a size 10 would be nice.

I am excited to get a new body and a healthier self. However, I am wary that something will once again halt the surgery and I will fall back into my nightly TV watching with a bagochips.

Sorry to hear that things have been difficult for you. But, take heart, this is a wonderful tool. I too had lost the feeling that I had the capacity for things to actually change in my life. I had been scheduled on two previous occasions for bariatric surgery only to have it cancelled due to various health issues.

When I decided to give it a third try I was unsure if I should. But it was the right decision. I have lost 21 lbs in roughly 7 weeks and I feel so much better already.

You can do this! Hang in there!

Firstly, congrats on your new, healthy baby! That is great  I can't wait to have kids, and am hoping that when the time comes (probably in 4-5 years and when I am, of course healthy and thin!) I will be able to do it with no complications (including fertility issues or band issues).

Having said that, just keep plugging along in your Quest to complete all of the pre-op requirements and don't let anything deter you! You'll have your surgery date before you know it! For me, seeing the pre-op weightloss was a big motivation not to snuggle up on the couch with those chips  I'm sure you'll do great and will be on your way to a happier, healthier you before you know it! Good luck and keep us posted!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
