I am sure people with that experience will post. It hasn't happened to me yet but from what I have read on here from other posters is that it takes time to go down and you will need to wait it out. Then, I believe most of them go back to mushies or liquids depending on what they can tolerate. If it gets really bad, I would page the surgeon or whoever is on call at your surgeon's office.

If you have only been drinking liquids I am guessing there isn't really anything much that could be stuck. If you were banded very recently then its possibly still swelling from the operation and your oesophagus settling down.

Just keep sipping Water and hopefully the feeling will pass. Sometimes sipping hot Water or tea helps but if you continue to feel pain then call your bariatric team for advice.

Miss K - for about week after surgery I felt like there was a big lump stuck at the back of my throat. I was told it's mucus from the anesthesia. If you keep using the incentive spirometer they should have given you regularly it should eventually go away (or at least mine did). Keep us in the loop!

I had this problem yesterday, I could not drink more than 40oz of Water, I was hiccuping and I felt like my stomach was in my throat, had a kicked in the gut feeling and my left rib had a stitch in it and then heartburn. I called my doctor yesterday (on Saturday), they had me go into the office, they came in and took Fluid out of my band, it was filled to tightly. Call your doctor, that's what they get paid the big money for. it is better to be safe than sorry.

Hi Everyone

Thank you so much for your responses, I apologise if I appeared hysterical - I was 3 hours away from home with people who just didn't understand what I was going through, whilst I was really upset about this sensation that wouldn't pass, they were busy making plans to go out for dinner (very helpful). I didn't have contact details with me for anyone who could help me, it was just awful.

The sensation is still there today, I have done some research and it seems it is quite common (although I couldn't find a solid answer for why) and it can last for weeks (please god, don't let it last for weeks!).

Anyway, I rang my surgeon but he wasn't available so I have an appointment to see his partner surgeon on Wednesday afternoon.

Thank you again for helping me through my psychotic moment!

Hi MissK,

I was banded on 27th August and havwe the same stuck feelling. I am still on fluids so cant be food. I hate it. Well, it is encouraging knowing someone else has the same thing. I think mine could be a Vitamin pil that I swallowed that is stuck. Figured is ok to swallow since hospital gave me panadol to swallow and said is ok. do not know if it is though, cause it is about 3 days now. Anyway, keep me posted on how you are going. And what doctor says. I would like to know as well.:blushing:

Hang in there.

Hi there

The sensation is gone; my surgeon thought it was perhaps swelling and he did not think anything was stuck as I had not consumed anything capable of getting stuck. It only lasted about 4 or 5 days.

Hope you feel better soon.

I've had the sensation on and off since week 2 post-op. Not sure what it is either... but I try to ignore it the best that I can!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
