Does any have Dr. Krahn?

Recommended Posts

Okay I was approved for the surgery in April 2009 but my PCP required me to attend 2 months of diet and I lost 20 lbs. But I had to go to a seminar 1st and this thursday I'm going to my consult, I talked to the office staff and they said that I just have to do my pshy eval, and nutrionist, and maybe a upper GI if the dr recommends it. But I was wondering if anyone has went to Dr. Krahn in San Bernardino CA because that is who will be doing my surgery. How long did the process take? I already have the authorization for the surgery it's just how long is he going to take?

I have heard good things about him. A friend of mine used him for gastric bypass. Staff can be flaky but he is very good. I think they have changed some of the staff out so it should be great. He also has a support group I believe, but double check.

I don't know. I have Aetna insurance and since my first consultation. back in May it has been 4 months, I had a 3 month nutritional consultation hold per insurance. Now that I have switched surgeons I guess that now holds me back an extra month. I have a new consult Sept 2nd but all my tests are done. I would say realistically if you have the holds you are looking at 4-4.5 months. Self Pay I would guess under 2 months. Depends on testing and scheduling

I got banded by Dr. Krahn on July 31. I went to my first seminar September 08 and started the process. I was able to get all my pre-op testing done during October. I have Aetna and my plan required a 6-month diet. I got stalled in February when I was hospitalized with pneumonia (not related to the band quest) and lost a couple of months. I got back on track. Was approved in June, attended pre-op seminar in July and got surgery scheduled for that month. The staff at St. Bernardine was nice and I had a private room -- and a cool Goth nurse.

If you're already approved, you're well on your way. If you follow his directions, you could get a surgery date within a month, depending on his schedule.

Good luck!

Thanks, I saw Dr Krahn today and I have to see my PCP on Friday Sept 4 and he has to give me a medical clearance and order my upper GI. I already scheduled my pshy eval and its not until sept 21. But that is all I need so they said that I looking at surgery in October / November. Can't wait!!! So Julia how did you like going to Dr Krahn? He seemed nice at the visit.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
