Hi Susan,

You aren't doing anything wrong. The first 6 to 8 weeks are for healing and a lot of people don't lose anything during this time. Are you drinking all the Water your Dr. wants you to have each day? I have only been banded since 6/25/09 and I have learned from others that a lot of people don't start loosing significantly until they have had a few fills.

It will start to happen soon, just take it one day at a time.

Grandma gave you good advice. The first part of this process is hard! You are healing from the surgery and you may not lose weight. When the swelling goes down around your band, you are wide open and you can eat almost anything, lovingly referred to as bandster hell! Make good choices, get in your Water and get your exercise in and you will be making a step in the right direction!

Give it time. Try to stick to the plan that your doc gave you and wait for your first fill. That will give you some restriction, but don't count on it being perfect! It takes some work to get there, but if you follow the plan you will be well on your way to being a successful bandster!

I can only echo what Grandma & Kristen said. Everyone heals and looses weight at a different pace. Be patient, and hang in there...

I agree with the rest... the first few months are tough with lots of emotional ups and downs. I just keep doing what I am supposed to and know it will all be good in the end.

Some people don't start losing until they have restriction. If I were you I would consider checking out a Curves membership. They have many machines that you can do even with bad knees. You might also try some weight training.

I have to work out everyday or I just don't seem to lose.

Good luck to you.

Donna

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
