Stretched pouch????

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was banded July 7 and the first fill was Aug 4. THe day of my fill, I felt restriction and was happy to feel it and feel full.

The next day I felt no restriction, got hungry between meals and ate more than should have, portion-wize.

I feel as though I have more food capacity than I should feel. Could this be a stretched pouch and how can it be checked?

Worried,

Mari

More likely is that you still need more "fill". Very few people get good restriction the first time out. Call your surgeon if you're worried. However while it's never good to overeat, it takes more than one or two times to stretch out your stomach.

Hi Mari

A lot of bandsters don't get restriction until after a few fills, especially if your surgeon is less aggressive in his approach to fills so it may take you a while to get to your 'sweet spot'. it is far better for you to build up your restriction level gradually than to have a huge fill and be over restricted too early on.

Hopefully you can make sensible food choices and portion sizes until your next fill.

I had over-eaten a few times and when I went for my first fill my doc commented on how my pouch was still perfectly shaped. I realized then that I was worrying needlessly about over-eating since I really didn't have much restriction at all.

We all tend to worry more than we probably need to about damaging our bands in my opinion its just fear of the unknown. Try to relax a little.

I know a lot of people don't like to weigh their food but I think for someone like me it is very important in the beginning. Just for this reason. I had my first fill on 08-04 and I don't have a lot of restriction either even though she put 4.6cc's in my band. I made an appointment with her for 08-25 (can't wait) however, I have been and am being very, very careful until then so I don't make any mistakes. Hang in there and call your surgeon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
