Banded on Monday, Aug 17

Recommended Posts

After approx 10 months of a pre-op program (testing, losing some weight, etc.) I had lapband surgery on Monday.

By Monday night I was feeling great -- was told I had great color, a big smile and the incisions looked good. I did three short walks that night.

Tuesday wasn't as good, as I was definitely in more pain. But the pain is slowly going away.

A few things I did that I think helped:

1) I went to an acupuncturist the day before. She put some "press tacks" in my ears to help manage the pain and reduce the side effects of anesthesia.

2) before going in to the operating room, the anesthiologist (sp?) offered me nasua bracelets. These work on an acupressure principle and I've used them before. No nasea.

3) yesterday I saw my acupuncturist. By the end of the day, I was rid of that anesthesia headache. Overall, today was a much better day than yesterday.

I'm still struggling with what I can and can't have. The difference between liquids and purees seems minimal, and the more I read the more I find the lists are different.

Also, everyone said I'd have trouble getting in lots of Water. That doesn't seem to be an issue for me.

Congratulation, this my second day on the from. I only had the courage to e-mail my doctor about what procedures to take to have the surgery. You post has been helpful, because she told me I would have to meet with the nutrition clinic monthly x 5 in addition to other test. After this I would see a surgeon. I look forward to reading about your success. Good luck.

Hi SummerAgain:

I'm having trouble with the Proteins as well. Everything that comes highly recommended seems to be either $$$ or mail order.

Any solutions/options would be great. I keep trying to blend soy Protein powder with other stuff, only to end up with sludge. :o

Thanks!

Quite a few people from my doc's office drink Myoplex or Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar added. In the hospital they gave me Boost, for Diabetic People. I'm actually confused because of the carb content however the doc said those were good as a last resort. I drink nothing but chocolate because I'm so picky. They all taste like pudding to me.

I had my surgery on the 17th also, I stayed in the hospital overnight, as I don't handle the anesthetic very well. I did get a patch for the nausea before surgery too. I was not up and walking around the 1st night, alls I wanted to do was sleep. The 2nd day I did get up and move around. By Thursday I was off all pain meds and not taking anything. On Sunday though, I couldn't stand another liquid entree, so I tried an omlet, and I was able to eat it and not throw up. I am still eating foods, even though I should only be on pureed food. But I haven't been sick yet. I have learned to eat slow, and to drink slow.

Hi Lisa15ann --

I did nearly the same. Just couldn't hack it on the Protein shakes. I did take ricotta, mix with garlic (powder) and chives, topped it with pizza sauce (less sugar than Tomato sauce) with some red pepper flakes and baked for 40 mins. Served it on top of polenta. Mushy, but flavorful. And not a shake!

I am glad that I am the only one that couldn't follow the rules, I figured since the food is going down, and I am not throwing up why not. Bad think is my ins. co. won't let me have my 1st fill until 90 days after the surgery, so I have to try to maintain the weight that I am, since I have lost some. I am working hard on eating 3 meals a day, drinking when appropriate and getting Protein in. This in itself is exhausting work, hopefully by the time I have the fill I'll have the 3 meals down pat.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
