Was anyone given a catheter?

Recommended Posts

I did not have one. I was told that if I went before the proceedure I wouldn't need one, if not I would have to have one. Every doctor is different, I think it is a 50/50 thing. ~Mandy

I did not have one during surgery, BUT I couldn't pee after surgery and when I went 20 hours without peeing they put one in. It was a relief to have it in. They almost sent me home with a portable one but I had the choice of taking it out and trying to pee on my own again or going home with the portible one. I chose taking it out and trying. I peed 4 hours later and went home 1 hour after peeing!!! My surgeon said it sometimes happens after surgery.

If I had not been told it was being done prior to surgery, I'd have never known it was done. It was put in after I was under and taken out before I returned to my room, YEA!

GRRR - that was the worst part of the entire surgery!!!

I was wide awake when they shoved that thing in me... I screamed and then apologized for the reaction... it burns on the pullout baby! not sure if it's different for men and women - I'm a guy FWIW...

I guarantee that I was able to pee the next time on my own...

I don't think I had one - wouldn't one be a bit sore or tender down there afterwards? If I had one it was put in during surgery and took out while I was still under.

I just had surgery on monday.

They put it in while I was out and they took it out as I was waking up, I could feel it a little but it didn't hurt, you just know something funky is going on down there LOL.

Nope, I didnt have one and didnt want one either. It felt like I was in the restroom every 20 min. and even though that was no fun, it kept me walking around pretty frequently.

No catheter. They also made me use the restroom before I got the anesthesia. After the surgery, I had to use it, but I had a hard time going. I've heard something about until the anesthesia completely wears off, some people struggle to pee.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
