Hey everyone! First time posting but have been browsing for a few days now. My surgery date is Sept 8th and I'm starting to get nervous and freak! I'm all "what if it doesn't work for me and I don't lose much weight or lose really slowly or gain everything back or have complications." Ahhhhhh! Plus the fact that I'm self-pay so paying thousands of dollars for something that may not work is SCARY. Not to mention the fact that I made the mistake of going to the "complications" forum and the "struggling with the band" forum. Great idea. Just great. I already need a xanax just thinking about it all! Anyone else freaking out like myself? I've also noticed while browsing the last couple of days that many of the success stories are within 2 years max of their surgery date. I'm sure there are some but it would be more comforting to know that 5+ years later the weight has stayed off.

Anyway just wanted to see if others went through this freak out phase and how you got through it?

OMG - get out of my head! Seriously, I could have written that same post. Well, not anymore I guess. I'm not too scared. I've gotten over the nerves I think. My surgery is next week.

Yes, I think mostly everyone on this site has had the same questions and the same concerns. Really! Try to relax, read lots of posts. You'll get lots of info, find out things you did and didn't want to know  and probably make some great friends. This is a great forum. Welcome!

I'm also a newbie. I haven't gotten approval to get the surgery yet...that happens tomorrow hopefully. But, I did see somewhere in the forums of someone who actually got banded way more than 5 years ago...I can't tell you exactly how many but it was significantly more.

I'm really nervous too...but hang in there...many of these posts will help you get through in the beginning and throughout the rest of your journey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
