7 weeks for first fill is this normal?!?!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 7/29 and I am on a regular diet. My first fill is schedule for 9/3. I have been counting calories and Protein. I simply CANNOT eat 800 calories a day. I try to eat between 1000-1200 calories a day. Once I have some type of restriction I will reduce my calories. I write down everything I eat. I find that helps.

I had my surgery July 20th and am going to have my first fill next week...can't wait !! Guess the surgical swelling has gone down because I'm fighting hunger and capable of eating more than I want to. I've lost 11 lbs since surgery and was told at my Dr visit this week I'm right on target.

Need to update this darn ticker factory thingy.. somehow

I was banded July 28th and will be having my first fill Sept. 9th. I wish it would have been sooner but I have almost lost 20 lbs since surgery, so I am actually happy with that. Just hoping that when I get my first fill the weight will come off faster....LOL Jennifer

Hi, i had my surgery July 31. My doc is going away for 2 weeks and I have to wait till he gets back to get my first fill on Sep. 17! Is this normal? I am so hungry now i am eating like every 2-3 hours i am afraid i am going to gain weight!

Hi Lisa,

I think it just depends on doctors. I was banded on 07/07 and will have my first fill on August 24th. It WAS set for August 31, but I called and told them I would be out of town then and if I could possibly get in on the 24th, and they rescheduled me for that day. I, too, am hungry a lot and eat about every 2 to 3 hours and am only down between 9 and 12 pounds since surgery. It fluctuates all the time! just know, you definitely are NOT alone! Good luck to you!!)

My doc won't do a fill until I am 8 weeks post-op and will use no more than 1cc. At this point I am still not hungry, so am not too worried about it.

Sounds like 6 to 8 wks is pretty average. I had surgery 7/16 and won't have my first fill til 9/10 sigh, but that's because my surgeon is going to be on vacation :-(.

So for now, I just control how much I eat. Stick with the right types of foods, and exercise.

I'm guessing by the 10th of September I'm going to be MORE than ready for that fill lol.

I had surgery on 7/30 and talked with my surgeon wants to wait to do the first fill at 13 weeks. I have a 14 cc band and the surgeon even took the 3 cc's of saline that comes in it from the factory. I suspect that it will take some time to reach my 'sweet spot'.

I am on soft foods right now and feel like the band is not yet helping. I have managed to loose 35 lbs since starting the pre-op diet, all on willpower. I really could use some help here.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
