ive been advised to try and lose weight...but how?

Recommended Posts

i had a consultation at the surgical clinic on monday. it seemed to go well, much paperwork filled out. before i left i was advised to "try and lose weight" without being given any specifics. i have an appointment on friday for a bariatric class and a one on one consultation with my surgeon later in the day.

does anyone have any suggestions on what type of diet i should follow to try and lose some weight?

Try reducing your carb intake. Cut out rice, Pasta, and white breads subsitute them for lean meats and vegetables. Start to excersise walking will work. Create a caloric deficit. Which means burn more calories than you take in. You can also track your caloric intake on livestong.com its a good tool to get you started

They should tell you at the bariatric class what they want you to be eating pre-op. Each surgeon is a little different in what they want for that. They should give you literature and info about what they are looking for. My surgeon required a Protein Shake for Breakfast (water only) and lunch and then one meat Protein and one small green veggie for dinner.< /p>

i figured that might be the case. i dont have a surgery date yet (hopefully soon tho!) and havent met my surgeon yet. this was just the bariatric coordinator giving me the "lose some weight" talk. unfortunately she didnt offer anything in the way of advice. gotta love the military.

im thinking of cutting out breads, Pasta, potatoes, and most but not all carbs, eating plenty of protein and just eating about 1000 calories or so a day (definitely no less than that).

im just SO freaking ready for this band! i dont know how you guys could stand the wait!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
