I have my pre-op testing tomorrow (Thursday). It consist of... (reading straight from my lab orders)

blood work

- BHCG(Qualitative)

- CBC w/ Diff

- Comprehensive Chemistry (CMP)

- H. Pylori

- Liver Panel

- PT/PTT

- T3, T4, TSH

- Urinalysis

- B12, Ferritin, Vit D 25 Hydroxy

Chest PA and Laterial, UGI and physical from my primary care physician.

From there I have a meeting with my surgeon on Friday to discuss my results! Praying everything is okay and that I am good to go for surgery.

Hi there! For my pre-op I was lucky and did it all in one day.

I saw the nutritionist, had an EKG, did a stress test, chest X-ray, and blood work. I didn't do a psych eval or some of the other stuff some docs require.

Hope the info helps. Good luck to you!

Blood work, psych eval, chest x-ray, EKG, letter from PCP and I had to get special clearance from my heart doctor due to a heart condition. I also had to have a heart doctor on standby during my surgery. If you have any special conditions, you may have to do something like that and get an extra clearance.

I had to see a cardiologist (had to do a holter, echocardiogram, stress test), a pulmonologist (breathing test & chest x-ray), endocrinologist, psychologist, nutritionist, and get an endoscopy; when that was complete, my gp has to review and give letter of medical clearance. Also had to do the usual hospital pre-sur. stuff. Did not have to do sleep study - I have no sleep apnea and did not have to do barium swallow.

Thanks everyone. I should have clarified, not the test from the surgeon to get their approval that you are OK for the surgery, but after you have done all them tests, and all the insurance requirements and have surgery scheduled, you go to the hospital for pre-operative tests right before surgery...I was wondering what all they do then.

Thanks for all the help and input!!!! :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
