Burping all the time

Recommended Posts

I was banded about 4 1/2 months ago. Since my last fill, I burp constantly while I am eating or drinking anything... even Water. It lasts about an hour after I am done. Before that fill I could drink 100 oz of water a day, no problem... now it takes me an hour or more to drink 16 oz and I am exhausted at the end of a meal. At best, I can eat 4 or 5 bites of solid food. Anyone else experiencing that? Is my band too tight?

Probably your band is too tight. Have you talked to your surgeon and given him the above information?

Definitely talk to your surgeon and see what they suggest. Are you using straws to drink? That will cause burping also. I burp if I eat or drink to fast.

I burp a lot since banding, however it is my sign to stop eating because I am full and if I eat even one mouthfull too much it continues until my food has gone down through the pouch.

If you are unable to eat even a tiny amount without hours of belching then you may be too tight. you should be able to sip fluids freely without problems.

Even Water is difficult to go down (no straw). By the time I called the surgeon yesterday the office was closed. I called this morning and they are trying to get me in today. Thanks for the feedback.

Good News, you are completely normal! My doctor explained to me that the stomach pouch contains air. When the food or liquids go down into the pouch that air has to go somewhere. It will either be a burp or end up as gas on the other end. It is completely normal.

I've burped a lot since banding, and my last fill I burp more, but not excessively...love the restriction finally at 6.5 cc (in 14 band)!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
