I can't remember if we have a thread discussing this or not but I've been wondering about putting something on my scars now that we've got a few months behind us. But then again I'm having gallbladder surgery and they said that other than the port incsion they will probably use the same ones they made when I got my band..anyway

Is anybody doing anything to minimize their scars?

JayTee - I just asked my family doctor yesterday and he prescribed me something called Silvedene. I googled it and decide not to get it since it is a burn cream. I read it and it has side effects, so I am going to continue using Maderma (over the counter).

My scars still have reddish color.

Good luck with your coming up surgery. Please keep us post.

I tried something over the counter a few months after surgery but it kind of irritated my skin. I should have guessed because sometimes my skin is sensative. I bought mederma shortly after that but I did not try it yet. My scars are really not that bad. The upper ones are a little dark but the one where the port is is really not that visible.

My sister had open heart surgery when she was young and she put Vitamin e on her scars and today you can hardly see them. So I've been doing that. All I do is take a softgel vitamin e poke a hole and rub in the contents. Unfortunately I haven't been doing it daily but I have noticed an improvement since I started.

I've heard this before I may try it...thanks

I have been using E-Sil. It is an over the counter product. I gave up on the Silicone pieces because they don't stick once used for a week even after washing them like instructed. My scars are also pinkish red. Seems my port one is raised more than the little ones. I think the smaller incisions get rubbed on more....they don't seem so hard.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
