Hi there. I'm a newbie.

My banding date is 9/1/09. On the pre-op 'New directions' shakes right now. Spent the last 6 months getting ready.

Had my last meal last night.

Started at 204 (april 09), and now I am at 189. Hoping to eventually get down to 120 or so post surgery.

I am short and small, but realllly widee ...:)

Looking forward to a thinner me, and hoping to learn from some of you.

Lansing, MI

Hi there! I have Dr. Richardson. She did an awesome job removing my gall bladder.

My holistic osteopath recommended their office, and I have been impressed by their comprehensive approach. No quick fix. Just adding tools. Love it.

Who do you have? You go in on the 20th?

Sounds great! Who is your Dr??

Welcome! :D

I too am on the pre-op diet.. day 4 and so far so good. I can have oatmeal in the morning which helps. I found egg drop Soup with extra chicken broth really helps at night. I don't have to do specific brands of drinks, just keep it low carb and mostly liquid (I wonder why that is? I wonder if it is to get used to liquids after surgery??). I don't know... if anyone does know, let me know!

Best of luck to you!

The whole idea of shakes is you will lose weight to shrink the liver, and get your Vitamins. At least the brand we were given provides that. (New Directions).

Egg Drop Soup with chx broth ..mmmmm.. that's a great idea. For post op anyway.

Good luck!

I loved the class. Even though there is a lot of information you already know, it helps to motivate and really drive home the process. I love it the teacher is a nutritionist and lapband patient herself. I feel so lucky I am in a program that is so comprehensive.

Do you go in on thursday? Who is your doctor, Richardson or Lane?

I am having surgery on 9/3, start my shakes tomorrow. Dr. Richardson is also doing my surgery.

I am nervous about the 2 week liquid diet.

What do you guys take for Vitamins? I hate the Calcium citrate lozenges. Do you take something else? I am also not a fan of the vit d capsule. It doesn't go down well.

Kelly did just call me and say that they have a new vit d liquid in the office.

Just curious what everyone else is doing!

Thanks,

Jamie

Well, right now I take the horse pills I have at home, but will have to purchase something later. Nice to know D comes in liquid. Cool!

Good luck on your surgery.

How's everyone's preop diet going? I discovered that I can't stand the vanilla and apricot/pineapple shakes. I wanted to trade in my full boxes, but they won't.

I am going to buy more chocolate tomorrow. What kind are you guys drinking?

What are you having for Snacks? I am having SF Jello and chicken broth.

Just checking in!

Did not care to much with the vanilla at all and tried to mask it with Crystal light, but that did not help. I like the Cream of chicken and the Apricot/Pineapple shakes the best and for Snacks having SF Jello and the Peanut Butter Bars that I purchased from the office.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
