Stomach flu and lapband?

Recommended Posts

Ok, this will make everyone say "what a weird question"

I can remember vomiiting 4 times in my life. Not sure what I did as a baby but I can remember when I was 6, then a few times as an adult.

When the family got a stomach bug I would lie down and wait to have the mess pass through the other end rather than vomit. No matter how bad I felt and how the others would tell about relief, I would do anything rather than vomit. I absolutely HATE to vomit.:hurray:

I am wondering what would happen if someone caught a stomach bug or ate something that was bad, like bad chicken? If it passes through the band can you vomit it up? Would it make it through the band or does it take that long to get through that it would come up?

I am planning on spending 2 hours a night cutting up my food small enough to get it down through the band rather than PB or slime. I am hoping that never happens to me.:)

This actually happened to me and I was scared out of my mind because like you I rarely vomit and hate doing so. However it wasn't bad. I didn't have any trouble as far as the band goes. I just felt horrible.

I don't think anybody likes to vomit, but after vomiting during two pregnancies you kinda get over the fear.

PBing really isn't the same in my opinion as vomiting anyway. It's more like a baby's spit-up. After the misery of being stuck, PBing is easy by comparison and a welcomed relief. So don't worry about it. You gotta do what you gotta do! Life goes on!

Man, you'd hate to be me. When I get sick I cough so hard I puke. I agree that nobody likes to vomit. Plus, it's very hard on the teeth.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
