*slim* 2 Posted August 17, 2009 I wasn't diagnosed with PCOS until I started checking into surgery. I have the occassional hair on the chin, but thankfully it is usually one at a time. My problem is with acne. I had acne as a teen, but hadn't had problems until I started losing weight! I now have cystic pimples that are very large and painful. Did any of you notice your acne getting worse as you lost weight? I finally broke down and went to the doctor. I was prescribed a topical medicine along with an antibiotic. I am praying that it works. I look worse than I ever did as a teen!!!!
Sarah Youngs Riley 0 Posted August 20, 2009 I have actually been breaking out really bad just this week. Oddly enough I seem to be improving most of my other PCOS symptoms, like I have had a period 3 months in a row (which hasn't happened in over 10 years), and my moods have tamed, plus I haven't been having any insulin problems. It makes me wonder why the acne all of a sudden. I am getting it mostly on my face but I found very large cystic pimple on my stomach just yesterday. I am using an expensive cleanser so it is even more frustrating when I wake up in the morning with more acne.

I no longer have any insulin issues. My blood sugar is normal. I have a period every month now. My face has just progressively gotten worse. I really don't like it. I have used some mail order face cleaners. I have used the very expensive drug store brands. None of them have been helping me. My face is no where near clear right now, but since starting the antibiotic, the cystic pimples are going down. I hope you are able to get some relief soon. Thanks for replying. kerry1979 0 Posted October 11, 2010 Are you on birth control? I was diagnosed with PCOS 12 years ago and was back and forth on different hormone treatments and come to find out, the oral contraceptive is what was causing my breakouts and imbalances. I now am on Spironolactone which has reduced the Fluid retention and Hair growth and decided on the mirena iud to lessen the lining and bleeding without the systemic feel of a birth control pill. My skin (and mood) has greatly improved removing the oral hormone and using a local one. Hope this helps!
Willsmom6 0 Posted October 13, 2010 I am scheduled to have surgery on oct 28 and my skin was one pretty important thing i was hoping would improve so i'm kind of dissapointed that it doesnt seem to be a pcos symptom that leaves with the weight. oh well would still definitely want the lap band ;o)
Tsaleen 1 Posted October 13, 2010 adult acne can be set off by hormonal changes and stress, hopefully over time your body will adjust and the acne will settle down. I was also taking sprionolactone for hypertension, I also have PCOS. This medication is a mild diruetic and it is also used to treat acne problems. I noticed while I was on it my acne was almost non-existant. I have not taken it since my banding because I am worried about dehydration, but I have been debating going back on it. I am supposed to take 25 mg a day and usually I just take it every other day.
AmyC315 0 Posted October 20, 2010 I was diagnosied with PCOS almost 20yrs ago. I've always had troublesome skin bcuz of the hormonal roller coaster. But I noticed just before my surgery on 7/28/10 that my skin had gotten alot worse, I would say the worst of my life. At that point I had lost around 30lbs and now I'm down a total of 55lbs and my skin is not improving at all. I even broke down and for the first time purchased some ProActiv - BIG MISTAKE! It made it worse. Right now, my face is so bad, so red, so painful, so swollen with large cystic bumps that I dont want to leave my house and im so depressed. I dont know what else to do or what to do to stop it.
