dpj00024 0 Posted August 17, 2009 So I'm hooked on the Starbucks carmel frap. Since being banded however I've switched to the lite version that they offer. Is this just a bad choice or what? The calorie intake isn't bad but the fat grams aren't good. The carbs are too high. It would all be okay if you were going to work it off or make that a Meal Replacement in which I doubt. I used to drink a skinny French vanilla Latte and that was my Breakfast. liquids seem to creep up on you. Be careful Josephine
krtork 0 Posted August 17, 2009 I am in love with my venti, 6 pump, no Water, non-fat chai! I weaned myself off of them and now I only have one, every two or three weeks. I have it in the morning and occasionally I will drop in a scoop of unflavored Protein powder - but most of the time I just drink it as is! It takes me time to drink all of it, but I love the indulgence. You really need to look at what you do for daily calories and if it works, it works. If you are drinking that plus adding on additional calories to help fill you up - you might want to rethink it.
Portola Suzanne 3 Posted August 18, 2009 I get a tall mocha frapp light 110 calories and worth every one. Only get it a couple times a week so it is a treat and I count it in my calories.
MoxieDO 0 Posted August 18, 2009 I'm addicted to Starbucks. No one can stop me!!!! (except my wallet) Now, I mostly do tea and iced coffee, but every once in a while (um, week) a frap will sneak up on me. If I dont finish it, I will add Protein to it and have it later. Jachut 487 Posted August 18, 2009 Well, see I'd look at that and think, no trans fat, no salt to speak of, low saturated fat, dairy based, so high in Protein and Calcium, there's worse things you could have. Personally, I dont care about carbs, and dont do low carb, so I wouldnt even pay attention to that. IF its a Meal Replacement, no real problem on the calories either. I dont really care for drinks like that, I like black coffee and plain cappucino's and lattes that are just espresso and steamed milk. Someting like that is often Breakfast for me. If its a snack, even then, as long as the calories fit into a reasonable total, if its what you want to ingest, then why not? But I find that with high calorie liquids, I have something, think that's got to be lunch, and then I'm looking for food anyway because they dont satisfy for long. HeatherO 7 Posted August 18, 2009 I think if you can work it into your diet reasonably and you are continuing to lose at a decent pace, why not??? However, if you start stalling on weight loss, the first place I would go to cut some calories would be the caloric drinks.
dpj00024 0 Posted August 18, 2009 Thanks guys... I think I'll cut down to maybe one a weeek. : ) Since my 3rd fill about a week and a half ago, I'm down 10 pounds. Mostly because I started exercising and drascticly lowered my cal. intake. The band is finally working. Yah!
Punkinx2 0 Posted August 21, 2009 I used to get those all the time. Now I've switched to skinny lattes, which are a much better choice. I also get Decaf. I know that coffee is also on my surgeon's list of things to avoid so I try to maybe get them once a month. I was just banded 2 weeks ago (tomorow) so I'm still in the very new stages. NCLisa 0 Posted September 6, 2009 They have sugarfree carmel Syrup. Get a sugarfree frap! I go to starbucks daily, I order a iced venti sugarfree hazelnut latte with 2% milk. I love my Starbucks!
savannahsmommie 0 Posted September 7, 2009 The thing that stands out to me is the sugar! That's a lot. I was told by my surgeon at my last appt that if it has more than 5g sugar avoid it. I started doing that on Thursday and I am down 4 pounds already. Plus started munching on beef jerkey like he suggested between meals. I stay full longer and eat less now! KartMan 58 Posted September 8, 2009 Heck no, it’s not ok for me (except as a rare treat, and rare for me is a treat every other week or so). I am a 6’ tall male. I consume between 900-1500 calories a day. When I workout, I bump that up to about 1800 calories. Within those daily calories, I need to consume about 150 grams of Protein. It doesn’t matter where my calories come from. But if they come from crap like milkshakes (which is all a flavored coffee is), then I need to miss a meal, and I don’t like doing that. Now I love coffee as much as the next guy, but I have switched to no cream or milk and only Splenda as a sweetener, I never go for the flavored stuff. Aside form empty calories, I find that sweets like this tend to make me hungrier, which only spirals downhill if I give in to it. I am on a roll with weight loss, I don’t want to screw it up with the 5 minutes of pleasure this drink can give me. On those rare occasions that I do treat myself to something like this or ice cream, I do my best to over compensate with working out or being extra strict with food the next few days. There is a saying on a lot of tickers on here that goes something like this “nothing tastes as good as being thin feels”. Well, I’m pretty close to goal and a lot of folks that know me are actually starting to call me thin. Thin? Me? Can you believe it? Well, it’s true. And you know what? That saying is very true.
