Pre-op liquid diet - what was yours, and how long did you do it?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 8/11/09 and have lost 8 lbs so far. My pre-op was Clear Liquids and required for the day before surgery and three days after. However, I started over the weekend anyway. I figured it would give my liver more of a chance to look good and the doctor said it was in great shape. I am now on Full-liquids with Matrix Protein Shakes, strained creamed Soups, broths, yogurt, tea, and Water. Staples out tomorrow!:)

I have lost a total of 17 pounds since July 9th. I have lost 2 since starting my modified liquid diet on Thursday - I do go to the gym 5 days a week for an hour alternating doing the weight line, treadmill and zumba class. My goal is to lose 5 more pounds by the 27th, when I have my nutritionist meeting and hopefully 4 more by surgery on the 1st. Lofty goals, but I am going to try. The main thing is I am going to be losing it all eventually and won't crash and burn since the lapband is in my near future!

Did you start yet? How's it going?

That is awesome, 17 lbs already! I just started doing one of the diets that many docs seem to recommend - 2 Protein shakes plus a small meal or Lean Cuisine. I am also going to add in low cal Soups if necessary. So hoping to keep it around 1000 cals. So far so good!

Your exercise regimen is impressive! I like to run/walk/hike, but have been discouraged lately because I just feel so out of shape! I am going to try to get back on it. I can't wait to lose the weight so that I can really run again.

Good luck & thanks for the ideas!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
