Hi, I am new here but I figure the best way to get to know you all is to jump right in with both feet! Congrats hon, you are officially banded!! I am so excited for, here's to the new you! I am 6 days post op now and my gas pain was gone by day 4, WALK, WALK, WALK! I walked practically non stop at the hospital cause the nurses and docs said that was the quickest way to alleviate the gas pain...and it worked! Good luck hon! :-)

MissK, I'm glad to hear that everything went well. Keep walking to get rid of the gas, I must have walked all night since I couldn't sleep .

Congratulations on being banded and keep us updated.

Hi Everyone,

I am now home, just showered and about to go and have a little sleep.< /span>

The surgery was quick and smooth; I arrived at the hospital at 8am yesterday morning and was on the operating table by 8.45am - my surgeon came in and grabbed my hand and said "I am so proud of you, down 9kg (20lbs) since your consult, are you ready?" and I said "As ready as I'll ever be" and before I knew it I was out cold.

I woke up 90 minutes later in recovery, not even realising the operation had taken place; I asked the nurse 3 times if it was over yet before she lifted my gown to show me the incisions to prove to me that it was done. They then gave me a shot of morphine for the pain.

I was then transferred to my room at approximately 11am where I dozed on and off for most of the day. By late afternoon I was starting to suffer from pain from the gas, but frustratingly, it took the nursing staff until 8pm that night (and being snarled at by my mother) to get me out of bed and allow me to walk around and use the bathroom, as I wasn't hooked up to a mobile trolley for the IV Fluids.

I had a rough night's sleep, the was an elderly lady down the hall screaming out "somebody please help me" and then crying loudly - another patient that had been there for seven nights said she does it all night, every night and whenever the staff go in to help her, she doesn't actually need anything.

The staff came in at 4am to check my wounds (why they do it at 4am is beyond me) and asked how I was, I said I was in pain and I was told "that's to be expected" and wasnt given any pain relief.

At 8am this morning the surgeon dropped in and told me that everything went perfectly, that the band is sitting in a great position and there were no complications at all. He said I was okay to go home as long as I was keeping fluids down, so I called the nursing staff and asked them to discharge me straight away.

I am feeling okay, I have gotten down about 2 cups of Fluid since I got home and I'm not really feeling sick or hungry - the gas pains are not nice though, either is the pain around the port... but I just need to be tough, it will subside with time.

Thank you for your well wishes x x

Everyone is right about the walking. I also took gas x strips and found that helps. I was told to take my pain meds as prescribed even if I felt I didn't need them. There was a couple of times I took them too late and boy did I feel it. I had a lot of trouble with gas, but am happy to report that by day 7 it was completely gone. You'll be great!! Let us know if you have any questions. Here's to your speedy recovery!

Glad to hear you are home! Walk as much as you can. It really does help with the gas. And sleep as much as you can...your body needs rest to heal!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
