scotth24 0 Posted August 17, 2009 I can generally lie on my back for a bit, but spend most of my time laying on my right side, opposite the port/incision. (I had a single incision surgery and it's just to the left of middle.) How soon before you all felt comfortable enough to lay on port side? Just banded on the 14th. Thanks! Rutiglius 0 Posted August 17, 2009 I am a side sleeper and so I slept on my port side the very first night. However, I did "cuddle" a pillow to help take the pressure off -- that really helped.
Unforgettable 0 Posted August 17, 2009 By the third night of trying to sleep on my back with pillows on my side to fake myself into thinking I was on my side, I finally just gave in and sucked it up and slept on my side.
thefitmother 0 Posted August 17, 2009 I had quite a lot of pain around my port area which is on my right side. I was unable to sleep on that side for a couple of weeks.
VickieSH 0 Posted August 17, 2009 This was one of the most frustrating aspects of my band procedure!! I wasn't able to sleep on my side for at least four weeks. That sucked.
mokhamommy 0 Posted August 17, 2009 It's been almost six weeks for me, and at times I still have trouble sleeping/laying on my port side.
tvlbunny 0 Posted August 17, 2009 The 2nd night I was able to sleep on my right side and the 4th night I was able to sleep on the left side.
soniathekitty 0 Posted August 18, 2009 I was banded on 7/23 and still can't really sleep much on the left side where my port is. I have a couple of times and wound up turning over, painfully. My problem is twisting/turning or getting up from laying on my left/port side.. it feels like someone is stabbing me, or like the internal stitches are stitched onto some muscle below my naval. Not fun. I'm hoping that goes away soon. ~Sonia
NJMOMof2 17 Posted August 19, 2009 It's so funny to hear people talk about their port on the side! My port is directly in the center of my stomach right under my sternum. My doctor even told me he never heard of putting it on the side. I can say that I have no problem with it at all and can sleep on either side. Good luck and I hope your pain goes away... Anyone being banded should make sure the doctor puts it in the center..

Anyone being banded should make sure the doctor puts it in the center.. Just to clarify, I'm not talking about it being on my side like my flank or anything like that, just off center some. I have pictures in my profile of my incisions, the largest being the port one. I'm surprised your doc hasn't heard of it, it seems fairly common. I've heard more people who have their ports off centered some than I've heard of those that have it dead center. It's weird how every doc has their own techniques!
