esophageal spasms, hernia repaired

Recommended Posts

I had a h hernia repaired and since then I've had esophageal spasms. My doc gave me a medicine, but it does no good.

I'd love to hear from you all to know if this is unusual or frequently the case.

They began to die down for me around week 2 as far as intensity. I took Xanax (sp?) and the pain killers to try to help relax them. I still had them, though not at all nearly as intense, up to a week and 1/2 ago. Seems the need to burp would trigger them. I discovered that if I took quick steady mouth breaths that the burp would sometimes ease on out. I couldn't force them anymore.

They suck badly and I feel for you. I guess it just takes time for everything to loosen up a bit? I hope they pass for your quickly. :)

Thanks so much Emmylou,

I don't see any relationship that triigers the spasms, they pretty much stay there always. I am glad for you that yours went away and am hoping that mine will too. Strange, but today I took a xanaX hoping that it might relax my e, and it did somewhat,,,don't want to take them much though...

have ta work you know...:)

ANyone else with the problem??

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
