Need Advice, Banded on the 12th

Recommended Posts

My name is Leah. I was banded August 12th. My last bm was a day before surgery. I was so miserable after surgery that I was told to try the benefiber powder. I put the benefiber in my applejuice/water mix and now I am paying for it. I'm also very gurgly. I'm on the full liquid stage of the diet, and wondering if this will go away or if I need to call the doctor tomorrow?

I have an occasional stomach growl, but not really hungry. I'm trying to get my Protein in and everything but not really hungry. Anyone else have this problem? Need advice please!

Thanks,

Leah

When you say you're "paying for it" does that mean you're having diarrhea? If so make sure you're keeping yourself plenty hydrated.

I was told I shouldn't have too much Fiber immediately post-op. Who told you to take the benefiber? I'd definitely talk to your doctor about that if he wasn't the one who recommended it. It's really important to ask your doc's advice even when it comes to over the counter stuff like this.

Yes, I am having diarrhea. Thankfully it has stopped, and I am drinking plenty of fluids. I'm staying hydrated and drinking my Protein like I should. I was constipated for 3 days, so I think I got everything cleared out. Tummy is still grumbling, but it isn't bad.

I'm on day 5 and gas pains are bad from Protein Shakes. I was using soy and switch to whey today. My dr. had me take milk of magnesia last day. So I cleaned out this morning. I think it helped some.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
