Hi lap band friends!

My surgery is set for the 20th....this thursday!! And I have been freaking out at the thought of it. I've never had any kind of surgery in my life so this would be the first. To top it all off the whole "Clear liquids two days before and a week after" is getting me more nervous than I thought it would. Today and tomorrow will be my last two days of eating regular stuff. I'm starting to realize how dependent I've been on food...but I'm glad that that will all change soon. Has anyone else had this epiphany (spell check) too?? I'm starting to think to myself...how am I gonna do this? Will I be able to get through it??

On that note, I just want to stay how glad I am that I found this forum and how grateful I am to all of you who have shared your experiences. I don't know anyone close to me who has done the lap band surgery, so having this support system has been amazing help.

**Joanna**

P.S.

So glad you guys started a thread about Soups...plan on reading it over again soon!:)

Hey Miss J- I can assure you that everyone on this forum has had or is having the very same feelings you are and yes there are going to be moments of weakness but that's when you will get your opportunity to amaze yourself as to the actual strength that you have to stay on track. For me it helps with the fact that I know that if I dont follow what Im suppose to do, I will cause physical and medical harm that will results in another surgery ! yIKES !!! But you also need to find some external motivating factor and I've posted about this here before but find something that is a dream for you to fit into ( bathing suit, college pants, lingerie) anything and put it somewhere where you will see it everyday with a note to yourself from you saying " Joanna, remeber the goal..you can do this...love, Joanna " and you'll see how that will work wonders !!!

Best of luck and no worries you will get throught this, with some gas most likely ( LOL) but it will all work out great !!!

Do not worry about the clear liquid diet. The two days before surgery of course you'll be hungry, but it will probably be several days after surgery until you start getting an appetite again. By the time you're really wanting to eat again you'll probably be onto the next stage of your diet.

The idea of surgery is scary to most of us, but it's worth it in the end. You just have to keep your eye on the prize and realize it will be done and over with before you know it. Former is right, keep your mind on something you could never have because of your weight and that will help motivate you to stay on track. Good luck!

Hi Joanna,

You'll do fine, make plans to do things that will keep your mind off of food. This is day two for me, and so far it has helped. I went to a youth ballet last night and drove up to visit my mom today. Plan on taking the dog to the mall to go window shopping tomorrow night.

I can say though that the food obsession is still with me! I notice restaurants as I drive down the road.. more than I did before! I am starting to think already about what I am going to eat at different stages. I need to not be so food obsessed and put my mind on other things.

You are lucky to only do a 2 day diet. I am on day 2 of 11 days, surgery on August 26th. I figure it will be good practice though, regardless. :-)

I look forward to hearing about your surgery day story and success!

HI

this was my first surgery too, I had never been under anesthesia. the night before I meet the anestheolgist and he helped me feel a little better, but that night and the one prior I didn't sleep a wink. I am doing great, by the time you go in they give you lots of drugs in the IV and you won't care what they do , I wasn't even asked to count down from 10 the Dr put the mask on my face and said "I'm just going to put this here while I get redy. " then I woke up and it was over. My mom and I laughed at how he tricked me, I never realized he gassed me.

trust mem it's worth it I lost 13 lbs on that rotten pre op diet and 12 more post op.

"I"m just going to put this here while I get ready".. thats hilarious! Now I will be wondering if I am going to be tricked... then again, I know I am asking for Versed and I will be sorta drunk anyway.. I won't care!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
