Back pain? extra gas?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've checked gall bladder stuff, and it says all the pains are on the right side. I'm having pain (aching pain) on the left side behind my port in my back.

I have had lots of gas and no food change. I haven't had a fill for over 5 weeks, and this just started 2 weeks ago.

Someone mentioned, weight re-distribution. Could that be it? I have scoliosis (wore a back brace when i was in 8th-11th grade). My back was used to my old weight and now it's getting used to lighter me?

I wonder if I am not holding my posture correct.

Ugh, I'm sorry, it's just really bothering me and I want an answer. sigh.

How much have you lost? When I had gall bladder issues it hurt ACROSS my back, not just on the right.

You probably should call your doctor. Any "new" symptom when we haven't done something (like get a fill, change our diet, etc) should be run by the doc

(unless it's like you have lost a lot of weight and people are chasing you. That's different! :) )

Good luck.

Gallbladder pain is not always on the right, it can be on the left side, both sides, all kinds of ways to hurt.

You should see your doc, abdominal/back pain can be many different things.

I was banded 1 1/2 years ago. I am having similar pains, in fact this is my 3rd "bout" of it. Pain is below left lung, feels like stitch only BAD, trouble breathing. 2nd bout bought me 2 days in the hospital and they said it was "weird" and must be asthma. I kept telling them it felt like my port. Now after all the posts I'm wondering if the tubing is pushed up under my ribcage. I have done the "exercises" that they say make it better, but no. I have had my gallbladder out, the pain was the RIGHT side and my back and it didn't feel anything like this. Gallbladder pain for me, was much worse right after eating, especially fatty foods. This left side pain doesn't seem to be dependent on whether I eat or not. Let me know how you go please.

Ok, waiting for dr. to call me back. My back is still aching, but really it feels like aching now and I had a little sciatic pain today. I think my back is not used to this new weight.

I'm down about 50lbs.

I was banded in May of 08'. I have 2 friends who are also over a year out of surgery. We have all experienced the pains being described here. We have all assoicated it gas ! It can get to be debillitating (sp). I have tried heating pads, walking, but the best thing we have all found that works the best is simply taking gas x at the very first sign of the pain, once the gas x gets to working it gets the gas moving and out, once out, the pain is over. We wonder if it's not more common place then we think. any one else experience this that are over a year out?

Hi Lorrie - I am just a year banded and started experiencing this pain about a month or so ago. It is very uncomfortable, and for some reason, I always want to unbutton my pants, even though they aren't tight anymore. I try to walk it off, but it doesn't seem to work. I finally got to the point that it is worrying me so I decided to check here and see what other people are saying.

Now that you said that, the pain definitely feels like it could be gas. I had a very hard time with gas pain right after surgery. I am going to get me some Gas X and see if that works. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks!!

I'm about 1.5 years out and I've been having the same thing for 4 or 5 months. I decided it was lack of fruits and vegetables (and pretty much anything other than protein) catching up with me and causing Constipation.

I'm trying stool softeners to see if that will help clear things out to relieve the bloating and the gassy feeling (and back pain).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
