I was also banded on 8/11/09. I am experiencing the same pain which is where they placed the port just below the rib cage on the left side. You should have an incision there, which will be the largest one. I've used a frozen bag of peas - sitting it on the incision site and that has helped immensely.

DON"T worry i was banded 8/6 and still have some pain there but it gets better :) i saw my Dr. 2 days ago for my post-op and he confirmed it's port pain. Some (my) surgeon sew or tack it into your stomach muscle/tissue.... this is the best way to attach the port, vs. using a mesh. A mesh is more likely to get infected from what i understand. You use your ur stomach everyday to sit, stand, roll over ect. so it will take time to heal. Dont worry we've pretty much all been there.

Walk, walk, walk and even though it hurts keep deep breathing. Use the machine they gave you. It really helps.

I was banded on 8/11 also. I had severe pains between my breasts, under the ribs and moved up into my neck all on the left side. When I called my surgeon, he sent out a med pack, told me to use Gas-X and to walk as much as possible. Said it was probably due to excessive swelling in the post side. It did get better but not for at least 3-4 days later. I am still sleeping in my chair b/c I have developed a cough and I can breathe easier in it.

I was banded on 7/29 & 4 days after I was banded I started having these pains. I went to the ER b/c the doc told me to and it turned out that I had inflammation in my ribs. They wanted me to start taking iboprofuen and it really really helped. 2 days later I was feeling totally better! Good Luck to you!

If you have a pain that seems "different" from your other post op pains and is worrisome, call your doc. It can't hurt; best for them to guide you! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
