I will be banded on Monday August 17th  YA!!!!. I can't make a decision on whether to get the Realize Band or the Lapband . Which band is more popular? Have people had more problem than the other? Help!!!!

Hey Bikerchic...if you "search" this forum, you'll find there's multiple posts on the same topic with lots of good answers.

Everyone has different opinions. They're both supposed to do the same job. Lapband comes in 2 sizes (I think 10cc and 14cc), and the Realize Band-C comes in one 11cc size. The older version of the realize band (not the realize-c) had some complaints of forming and almond shape around the stomach versus a circle. The realize-c was designed to solve that problem. The realize-c port is held in place differently, which is supposed to speed up recovery time...not sure if I noticed a difference. After researching

the 2, I found I didn't really have a preference and told my surgeon I trust his judgement as to which he would put in. After surgery, he told me he thought the 14cc lapband would be too big, and the small lapband would be too small, so the realize-c was a perfect fit.

I let my surgeon decide too. He uses the lap band because it's the brand he trained with and the one he's most familiar with, but he told us at seminar he'd install either one if we had a preference. They all work in essentially the same way. I have an AP Large lap band that holds 14ccs and am pleased as can be with it so far. (you know if you pick Lap Band your surgeon will choose which size to install in you; you won't make that decision)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
