October 2009 Surgery Date?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 10-06-09 and so far I have had 2 fills. I am down about 65lbs post surgery and about 9 more including the pre surgery diet for abour 74-75lbs total. I am very pleased with my results so far although I know they would improve if I start exercising more as I should be. I am pretty careful though that I only eat protien for the most part. I do have an occasional "goodie" but really try to limit them carefully and have a very small portion of whatever it is. I also eat the fruit and cottage cheese paks for both Breakfast and lunch most days and it normally fills me up pretty well and then I have a good protien dinner. I have spoken to other patients from other Dr's and I think there is 2 different techniques used with the band. Some Dr's like mine put a pre determinded ammount in the band when they put the band in and other Dr's put it in empty and fill very slowly (thereby racking up lots more $$) I think this has ALOT to do with peoples early success or lack there off. If your Dr is one of the slow fillers keep the faith, when you do get to your sweet spot the pounds will come off.:smile2:

hey there. I'm a bit discouraged myself but that doesn't mean I'm not thrilled to be banded. I go in for a fill this afternoon. I haven't lost but 6 pounds in six weeks since my fill. : ( And this is really disappointing to me because it's hard not to compare ourselves to one another. I see one person has lost 70+ pounds and I think...why can't I do that??? It's in my nature to be hard on myself and beat myself up about stuff like this...and thus the weight problem, no? So I'm trying to do the best I can. I have really been exercising regularly. Last time I went to the doc's they said that I needed to do more than 1/2 hour of cardio a day, so I've been going to Curves regularly and doing 3 circuits, if not four...or doing the Leslie Sansone 2 mile walk video on demand...or some other video. Still....slow weight loss. But my clothes are really big on me now...so I need to use that as a measure rather than the numbers. We'll see what they say today.

Everyone looses wieght differently, and I think alot has to do with how much a person needs to loose. I was well over 300lbs prior to my surgery so I have lost alot quickly, but I still am 50+ lbs over my goal wieght and probably 75lbs more than my "ideal wieght" I have hit a couple of platues and not lost for a week or two then it seems to come off again. Keep up the good work, there are many ways to judge success. I can see the difference in myself more in my clothes than on my scale.< /p>

I too had slow fills. I am now at 9 cc's in a 13 cc band. The last fill was on Monday. I now feel some restriction for the first time. I tried to eat a flour tortilla tonight with some chicken and I felt burning, needless to say I took the tortilla off and continued to just eat the chicken with some avocado. That went down well and I did OK. I too love this band even though it seems to have taken me awhile to get here. Thank you everyone for your posts, they help. Becky

I'm also having a slow weight loss, just had my first fill of 2cc's in a 6cc band. My Doctor didn't do the first fill until I reached 3 months, due to two surgeries back to back due to slippage. So I've only seen about 18lbs since the band. I'm eating about 60%-70% of my normal, I need to drink more, I do so so but could improve. I feel no restriction and can eat bread, rice, and other items most can't eat. I'm calling my doctor on Monday to get another fill in hopes that will help. Glad everyone is posting I really enjoy reading here and hope we all make a better effort in posting to motivated one another. I live in Germany and talk about snow, I'm a Pheonix girl and like to drive to the snow for vacations, not have it everyday, so can't wait till it clears up.

Hi Everyone Thanks for your kind words and motivation, I was a bit down last time I posted. I agree with you all and I wouldnt be without my band either. With or without the band I always loose weight slowly, I am over 50 and also I have arthritis so cant exercise very much so that does help.

Went to doctor yesterday and had my second fill so now I have 5 mls in total and fill much more restriction so sure things will get moving well again now, at least I feel much more motivate after reading everyones posts.

Keep up the great work its nice to read posts and join in from fellow Bandsters who were all done around the same time, although it isnt good to compare.

Thanks again everyone for your help:thumbup:

Hi October Bandsters, Can believe with so many of you out there none of you are posting? Or are you a bit dissapointed like me? I have gone off the rails due to Christmas and cant seem to get back on, is anyone else having the same problems? Perhaps we can helps one another get back on track. I am having a fill at the end of the week, as I have only had one so far and I am really hoping this will sort me out..... HELP!!:)

Hi Oliverdog - Hang in there! Try going back to 2 days liquid and 2 days blended diet to maybe get you back on track. That restricted diet really helps me! The 2nd fill forced that cycle for me

I maintained over Christmas but got sick - so ended up losing a few more pounds due to just eating Soup. But I got my 2nd fill on January 25 - I had 2.5cc and she gave me 1cc more. Boy! That made a difference. They did the fill under xray and you could see the amount that was going through before compared to after the fill. The first day I was able to feel even Water going through - must have been swelling, because better now. But I am not eating as much. I have lost 9 pounds since Christamas and total 30 pounds. I figure 10 pounds a month is great results!

Hi Aghealty thanks for the encouragement, seem to have been much better since my fill on Friday and have lost the 1kg hanging around from Christmas already which is great!

Feeling much better and yest it does help with motivation having the fill.

Thanks agaiin

Hello Everyone,

I can relate to many of the things you guys are going through. However, I am really, really glad I did this. It was the best investment ever. I was banded on 10/14 and so far I have lost 33.5 pounds. Gained 3 over the holidays, but they are gone now. My surgeon just gave me my 3rd fill. I am at 5cc on my 10cc band. This might be my sweet spot, as I get full with one bowl of Cereal or 2 scrambled eggs. I am now 191 pounds and can't wait to get out of the 190's for good.

My best wishes to all of you and stay motivated. It really helps me (when I'm feeling lazy) to look at people's pictures on this site...

Take care everyone!

Nora

Hi everyone!!!! I was banded on October 27th, 2009, and have only lost about 40 pounds. Although it isnt what I had HOPED, it is something. I am not jazzed, nor am I really disappointed. Afterall, I have not had a single fill yet, nor has my lifestyle changed all that much. I just sit and think about what it will be like when I am able to actually get out and exercise....

So why havent I had a single fill you ask? No, I dont have any Fluid in my band, so there is NO restriction at all. Infact, I can eat foods that I wouldnt be able to eat if I was restricted. I just eat them in moderation. Is that bad? Yes, but at this point in time, I am not worried about it.

You see, my Mom just passed six days before Christmas. Things have been really crazy around my Dad's house. I moved back home for the next couple months, and have been working out of my Dad's house. My Dad owns his own company and the books are really messed up, so I have been working 12 hour days trying to get them in order. No real time to do much of anything....

I had to cancel my fill in December because my Mom was dying. The receptionist gave me a hard time about it too. Canceling my appointment that is, and I cancelled it several days in advance. The next available appointment they had for me at the time was February 11th. So, I am due to get my first fill on February 11th, and I am excited!!

I cant wait to have restriction! I will be moving back home in April so I can start a regular exercising schedule and start to shed these pounds. Like I said, 40 pounds isnt too bad. I am happy so far. BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE ON THEIR JOURNEY!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
