Marybeth - have you tried Gas-X strips? I was banded on Monday, and the strips really helped me get thru the pain of the belly gas.

Hang in there!

I am 5 days post op. Today, my hands started tingling. Could this be vitaman deficiency?? I wouldn't say I am having more pain than normal. I haven't been taking as much lortab because I have been doing alternating motrin as an alternative to get rid of fever. Any ideas??

Hey Oliverdog!

I was banded on the same day. I just went back to work on Thursday. Not feeling pregnant but feeling pain/soreness in the port area. I keep getting sharp pains up my right side due to the port possibly sitting on a nerve.

About the hunger. I was soooooooo hungry Days 1-5; I spoke with my cousin who has been banded since 2005. The advice she gave me is what I'll give to you because it has since worked for me:

Sip Water in between your "meals" whether your water is just plain old water or something non-caffeinated non-carbonated with no sugar. And continue to sip all day long.

Also put in little walks here and there, even if you walk around your house a few times a day. Just keep moving. Don't over analyze exercising like I did. I walk up and down my street once or twice a day and I'm OK with that. It doesn't have to be a lot, just some movement at first. Don't put too much pressure on yourself.

Try to divert your attention away from the hunger by trying those two things.

I recommend also watching a program or movie you haven't seen before, read a good book, do some crafts, etc.

I hope this will help you. I am here if you need to talk.

Take care and good luck to you!

Renee

Oliverdog, I think it's about diversion. If you think about it, the stomach is now sooo small. So it's not really able to hold much, but still, I know what you're saying. I think with me it's more boredom. I don't think I'll be able to look another pureed Soup in the face after this. It's super hard too when we're surrounded by food...especially in the workplace. My coworkers and I play the lottery. We had decided that our small winnings would go into the "chocolate fund". They keep a supply of chocolates on hand (like 5 feet away from me) which everyone from around the office comes and enjoys as well as those around me. I find, when I hear the candy dish lid rattle, a few seconds after, I'm suddenly hungry. Pavlovian, yes? But it happens all the time. Lots of stuff going on. So maybe you need to replace the hunger reminder with something else. When you feel so hungry, take it as a cue that you need to grab your water bottle, take a few sips and walk around your office for a minute.

Hope it helps....or eases up a bit. Keep me posted.

Hi Peeps,

I have a question for you all that have been banded about a week or so. I'm still doing the liquid pureed diet (til 2 weeks, then to mushies). I have no restriction in my band.

The first few days of banddom, I was watching the pounds come off....now for 4 days, no downward movement. I'm eating very little. One difference is that I'm only having one Protein Shake now, since i'm feeling too "bound" by the Iron in them.

My surgeon said to just focus on healing these first few weeks, but still....i'm excited about losing and want to see results.

how are you doing (and I know everyone is different)....but are you experiencing weight loss on post op liquid diet?

I am scheduled for 10/27 too! I am soooo anxious. Been working hard to make sure that I got approved by Aetna (I did the 3 month program). Got approved in less than a week.

Good Luck!!

 Anyone out there have a October 2009 surgery date? Mine is scheduled for October 27 and I can't wait! I am having a bit of 'reality' anxiety I think.. now that the date is actually set - but I know this is the best decision for me.

Good Luck to all of us who are taking this important step in improving our health and starting a 'new life'

Would love to hear from other Oct 2009 bandsters... :blushing:

My date is one day after yours and i am seriously considering cancelling,,,I just don' know if I can deal with the post op diet

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
