October 2009 Surgery Date?

Recommended Posts

Glad some of you are home and feeling better. I will start my pre-diet tomorrow my Doctor doesnt use one but I decided I will due a ten day one before my surgery on the 29th Oct 2009. Can't beleive its so close and getting approved was painless it took a little bit but just turned in the requested paper work and approved 33 days later I finally feel that there is hope out there. I eat pretty much health just not the right portions and no exercise and some day I graze even when not hunger, but I hope the feeling satisfeid sooner and the walking I have been doing that I will lose and keep it off. I know once we are out of Bandsterhell and on normal food I will be happy to get that behind me. Good luck everyone and like I read so often weigh and count calories and pre plan your menu until you have it mastered.

My surgery is tomorrow. I posted before, I was originally scheduled for Sept 28th, but because of diverticulitis the day before, it was rescheduled. It is just now sinking in that tomorrow is the big day. I am getting nervous. I have to be at the hospital at 1:30, so nothing after midnight tonight. I am working on my last glass of diet coke now. Wish me luck!

I'll be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers!

Check in and let us know how you're doing.

Good luck to all our this week's bandsters!

I'm on the other side of the band now! Surgery yesterday, 10/15. Everything went well. They have you up and walking laps around the nurses station (20 laps = 1 mile), and it helps with the gas. I'm doing okay. I have pain in my neck - soreness from when they hang your head back off the table to insert the breatheing tube. and my throat is sore from the tube as well.

I'm learning how to sip my Water, because swallowing like I used to causes too much air in. so it's a learning process.

Just wanted to check in and wish all of you upcoming bandees, good luck!!

Hi Nooshie I am the other side now too!! I got banded late Friday afternoon, didnt know much about the operation which was great, but didnt feel too well afterwards, always feel sick after being put out!! Travelled home from Belgium yesterday to the UK which was a bit of a trek, really tired and didnt feel well by the time I got home. Spent day in bed today and feeling much better, you get better by the hour! I know what you mean about learning to drink and take sips, not sure if mine are too big but after a little while I start coughing so I must be... Lots to learn - Good Luck all you October Bandsters.. x

I woke with a catheter that they removed in the early afternoon. My voice was very raspy the first day which indicated to me that there was probably a tube in my throat during the surgery.

Hi All

I didnt have a cathater, I have a tube down my throat during the operation and a drip tube in my stomach which was taken out after one day. I also had a tube up my nose to help me breath, this came out after a day. I am injecting myself to stop blood clots for five days and changing my dressings every two days for ten day, when the stictches that dont disolve on their own have to be taken out by a nurse or doctor - hope this helps?

I am 6 days post-op today and feeling great. Have lost 8 lbs. since surgery and 39 overall.

My doc has me on a 21 day post op liquid diet. The first 4 days were really tough, but it has gotten a lot easier the last 2 days and because I am too nervous to screw my band up, I won't cheat.

Good Luck to all you guys getting banded in the next few days. Hang tough with the pre-op diet and good luck again.

OliverDog, Congrats and welcome to the other side. I can't imagine having to travel that far immediately after surgery. Glad ou are home safe and getting some rest now. I am feeling better today. I am 4 days out of surgery and going back to work tomorrow. Yesterday had terrible pain in my shoulder area...but seems to be better today.

I'm still burpy...are the rest of you out there? seems like no matter how small a sip i take, it creates a painful pressure burp...and another question for you bandsters out there...how long after surgery did you get to poo?

Good luck all of you!

Hey everyone-

Thanks for your encouragement when I was getting cold feet the day before surgery! I am five days out now (banded on the 14th) and am now back to work! I work in accounting/finance so I am at my desk most of the day.

Gas pains was the worse! That was wwwaaaayyy wrose than the dang surgery site! My surgeon found a hernia while she was in there nad fixed that too. Thats weird that I had one of those but anyway..

About the bathroom question...

that is definitley a problem and my doc told me to take colace and if that didn't work move on to milk of magneasia.

I found today at the drug store they have liquid tylenol for adults! I felt like I needed a little somehting..can't take the good stuff cause I am working. Didn't know they even made that! It is TYlenol liquid rapid release. 1 dose = 1000 mg

My date id Oct 27. I am on day 7 of the pre-op diet. Our diet consists of:

Breakfast: 1 Atkins Protein shake

Lunch: 1 Atkins Protein shake

Dinner: 4 oz Protein, 1/2 cup veggies

Also allowed inbetween throughout the day 2 sugar free jellos, 2 sugar free popsicles, 2 - 1/2 cup servings of broth each.

Definately was not easy for the first 3 days. Day 2 I was sick, headach and dizzy and nauseauted, day 3 little nauseau afternoon, headache but by day 4 I felt good. Had more energy and no cravings. I even went with fiance to lunch and sat there with my shake while he ate pizza..(and no he wasn't being mean, I told him I was ok with it) My biggest thing is being constipated right now and 9 capsules of Beneful for the past 3 days is not helping. Anyone have suggestions?

Hi I'm schedule for 10/29 began my journey on 9/1 and i'm with you its hard to believe its almost here. I was on medifast plus a meal for 4 weeks and for the past 2 weeks i have been on 5 medifast shakes only and as the date gets closer the food smells great and I think the 2month transition period is getting to my nostrils but my mind is made up and I'm loving losing the weight 32 down and hopefully 8-10 more before surgery It feels so good to be moving more and feeling great. Its worth every shake I drank. Best wishes as you continue on your journey to health

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
