Have been lurking for months

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have posted a few times but for the most part I have been lurking.

I am 51yrs old and presently weigh 335. At one point I weighed 369. I joined a personal training gym which also daily monitored what you ate. I got down to 318 but stayed the same for 5 MONTHS. I was so depressed and finally gave up.

I have just complted 5 months towards my 6 month preop diet which my insurance (Cigna) requireds. I am actuallly UP 10lbs since I started the diet, probably because I have been afraid Iwouldnt be able to eat the things I do now.

Today I asked about my 2 week Preop diet and was told it would only be no carbs and no sugars. I was pleasantly surprised!!!! I wont believe if for sure until it actally starts.

My problem right now is getting off work long enough for the surgery and recovery. I am an RN, but I manage the Hospital Information System at my hospital. There are always changes and updates. There is a major one that goes live on 11/4 and will require several weeks of testing before go live. Guess when that is!!?? Right when I should be scheduled for surger. I have warned my boss that I would likely be having surgery in mid Oct, but never came clean on why. She thinks I have gallstones.

I dont want to wait until after the project is complete, but I may have to do that. I definately want 2 weeks off (just because) but I am told my doc only gives 1 week.

I guess I will have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Nan,

Before starting the pre-op diet, I stuffed myself with all of the foods I thought I wouldn't be able to eat after the band. Turns out, so far, I am able to eat almost everything, as long as I cut it in small pieces & chew well. This of course, could change after a fill, but I am enjoying it now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
