I finished up all my requirements for my office to submit my files to my insurance company and now they want me to see a therapist on my campus for 3 months before they will clear me. Getting my surgery date was so close I could taste it because my surgeons office has a oddly quick turn over rate from initial visit to insurance approval.

Long story short I guess I'm just bummed and would love to hear of any of yall's stories about your process up to banding.

Oh ya, I guess I should introduce myself seeing that I've never posted to this thread just lurked. I'm 19, prolly should be in the teen section whoops, and am a sophomore at the University of Maryland, College park. My surgeon is Dr. Moran in Raleigh NC and my start weight is 307, looking to be at 147.:)

A therapist would be good in the long run, but 3 months might be a bit much for this. But hey take advantage of it and work out any problems you have it on their dime.

Welcome to the boards, we can learn alot here. I have.

Welcome! The insurance process can be a long and painful one, that's for sure.

For me, I had to do the 6-month supervised diet. Then 4 months into that 6 month diet, it wasn't required anymore, but I didn't know until month 5 lol Not to mention at the time my surgeon was out of network so I was paying like $60 for each diet visit. I had to do a sleep study, to find out I had mild sleep apnea. Then I had to do a follow up sleep study with a cpap machine to prove that the machine would improve my sleep apnea so therefor losing weight would save the insurance company money. After that, had to wait a couple weeks for approval and finally got it. Unfortunately they were ready to schedule me for surgery right in the middle of my vacation date, so I had to postpone it until after vacation.

Long story short, you have to jump through a lot of hoops but in the end it is definitely worth it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
