123crod 170 Posted August 13, 2009 I would think you could do any light exercise. Walking is really good for you and you can be done in 30 or 45 minutes depending on how far you want to go.
gone 4 ever 6 Posted August 13, 2009 Ask your Dr. All Dr.s are different, so all advise here would be different. It is best to follow the Dr.s orders to the T. Good luck with your journey
Erin18 143 Posted August 14, 2009 i know walking is good, im doing walking thats why i asked about other exercises to put in. i asked my dr he said i could exercise just be careful, like can you give me some exercises that dont involve using your abs? i want to do some with my arms with 2 pound weights and eventually go up to 5 pounds. and i want to do some with my legs but i dunno what. i dont think i could do ab exercises til week 6. i dont see my surgeron til the 19th and i called him alot already during the first week. ill use my resistance band. i just want some arm and leg exercises thanks
ThinAli 0 Posted August 14, 2009 A lot of arm and especially leg exercises use your abs in some form you just don't realize it. You can run instead of walk or use the eliptical. There really isn't much that doesn't involve your core. If you belong to a gym or someone you know belongs to a gym ask a trainer what kind of exercises don't involve your core. knrpick 0 Posted August 14, 2009 I love the elliptical! I did this after 1 wk of surgery! I so want the wii fit!!!!!
Erin18 143 Posted August 14, 2009 i love the eliptical too! but i dont have one and i dont have a gym membership, but the school has one, i might beable to use it i dont know but it would have to be in the morning first period, then i would be all sweaty owell i guess but what are light exercises? wish i had a gym membership, would be a lot easier, ill do some seventeen magazine exercises, they're fun and ill go for a walk and then play DDR for 30 mins everyday and ill change back and for to the wii fit
Erin18 143 Posted August 14, 2009 yeah i was using my core ever since i got surgery, to get up and to lean back and all that and now i can bend over and pick things up and i can get in and out of bed i just dont want to be doing exercises made for the abs
Fae 0 Posted August 14, 2009 There is no way to tell whether you can lose that amount in a certain amount of time. You just have to keep on eating right and exercising. If the weight is coming off, your doing good to begin with. I would also recommend bicycle riding, it's not hard on your stomach muscles, but it's good for losing weight. knrpick 0 Posted August 14, 2009 Erin, do you like the wii fit? I want one and so does my daughter
Erin18 143 Posted August 14, 2009 is it ok to ride a bike now? And yup the wii fit is fun (: I like it
CantB2noty 0 Posted August 14, 2009 Love my wii fit!!!!!! i am not allowed to do any exercises that move my abs, such as aerobics, pilates and weights. however, i can run the elipitical and ride the stationary bike. Suppose I could ride a regular bike, however I live in New Orleans and thats not happening for another month when the temps start to cool down. Hope that helps! Erin18 143 Posted August 14, 2009 yeah the temp has been in the high 80s in new York it's even hard to go for a nice walk with the heat
onikenbai 33 Posted August 14, 2009 to lose 23 pounds by september 8th or by september 18th Why are you in so much of a hurry? And why 23? Have a thing for prime numbers or something? September 8 is not that far off and if you've just had surgery it may be unwise to push yourself too hard. You will be more vulnerable to dehydration and heat stroke in the hot weather than you were before because you won't be able to chug a whole bottle of Water at one go, so do be careful. You don't want to comprimise your overall health for the sake of rapid weight loss. I don't want to put a damper on your progress and I completely understand the desire to lose a chunk of weight as soon as possible but on your schedule you've got almost a pound a day, which is a HUGE calorie burn. Don't forget that, even if you don't get out of bed all day, it takes 200 calories just to run your heart and keep you breathing. Some people appear to be lucky and are losing a pound a day with only moderate effort but if you're not one of them, don't kill yourself to make it happen. Voice of experience here... exercising + super low cal = collapsing in public places.
