Going in for my first fill...

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am new to this forum and have no idea how to navigate. I'm not even sure I'll be able to find this thread once I exit. ugh...

I had my surgery July 16th and would LOVE to find others who had their surgery around the same date. It would be great to know if what I am experiencing is normal. Does anyone know how I can find this?

I'm going in for my first fill in two days. I was really excited at first, but now I'm nervous. Here's why...I was feeling great until I had a little fight with a piece of bread. Learned my lesson, yes, but every since then I've been sore again. Even eating cottage cheese, I can feel it go through the band.

My concern is this...isn't the upper pouch supposed to fill up, make you feel full, and make you stop eating? So how is it that it hurts when things go through? Will it hurt even worse after a fil?? I'm so concerned. Of course I will talk to my surgeon about this, but in the mean time, looking to ease my nerves.

Someone help??

I was banded July 10th, so relatively close to the 16th. And I went for my first fill yesterday!! I was nervous too but it was a piece of cake, she had me do a little exercise like lift my legs up slightly or my head slightly to flex my abdominal muscles so she could feel my port!! So easy!!! After that I don't think I will ever be nervous for a fill again!!! So now I am on liquids, yesterday and today and then mushies thursday and friday then back to normal food!! I'd be glad to answer any questions that you have if i can!! And I am sure that your fill will go smoothly!! Good Luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
