Slider Foods. What to avoid?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

What are some of the slider foods you know of? I would like to make an effort to avoid these and not even buy them to keep in my house. Here's what I have so far:

popcorn

chips

cakes

Cookies

ice cream

(sounds like all the good stuff to me! D'oh!)

I honestly think it's different for everyone. For example for me something like a bean burrito is a slider, but for others it's not because of the tortilla. Same with cheese enchiladas...for me a slider. Crackers are sliders for me. cheese is a slider. Peanut Butter is a slider. Pie is a slider as are all Soups.

And yes I have really great restriction, so it's not that.

I think you'll just have to see what goes down "too easy" for you and generally avoid it.

salad. I realized it last night when I ate a BBQ chicken salad (homemade) and matched what my husband ate...the night before I was stuck after three bites of pork steak. Guess I need to slow down on the roughage!

I try to avoid the cakes, Cookies, etc. altogether but sometimes I'll have a bite here or there. And I have a scoop of frozen yogurt with fresh berries if everyone else is indulging in mint chocolate chip--but that's only if I feel hungry and like I need something.

I also found Pasta like spaghetti is a slider for me so I try not to have pasta very often. I at least will eat the sauce or meat first so that I get my Protein in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
