Starting New Life and Terrified

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow (aug 12, 09) I'm being banded. I know I will be starting a new life. I am so scared that I feel like I will just to run. I keep asking myself if this is the right thing to do. I am so terrified of the unknown. I have read so many stories here, some with happy endings and others that terrify me. I am stuck second guessing myself. Please help, tell me has anyone else felt this way?:(

Oh bless your heart. I think everybody goes through what you are feeling. Everything will go just fine. Before you know it you will be living a healthy lifestyle. Do you know that only about 5% of the things we worry about ever even become a reality? Try and focus only on the positive aspect of changing your life for the better. Think how good it will feel to fit into a size you haven't been able to wear for years. Think about all the energy you will have once you lose all that cumbersome weight. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life. How can improving ones health be anything but good!

Congrats on your surgery tomorrow! I felt nervous at many points before my surgery. Its because its the 'unknown'. Everyone is nervous about something they've never experienced. Now, almost 2 months out of surgery, I feel that this is the best choice I have ever made!! Good luck with your surgery, and please give us an update when you get home!

Are you scared of anything in particular, or just generalized anxiety? Have you had surgery before? Are you afraid you won't be able to follow the "band rules"?

RestlessMonkey, I think it's just having sugery in general that I'm worried about. As with everything in life "you always want a successful outcome." Yes, I have had surgery before and it was still the same. I think I always have generalized anxiety.

Then the only thing that will help is just getting through it! :)

Ingra - Hopefully as you read this you have successfully gone through the surgery. I am scared as well (banding on 8/25) but I keep thinking of the positives. We are going to be thinner and healthier soon! Stay strong :)

Hello, everyone, I have made it thru surgery and everything went well. I spent one night in the hospital and came home today. I 'm feeling very good. I not nasueated and I'm just a little sore. It was smooth sailing and I hope the rest of my journey is the same. God bless and thank you all for your encouraging words and prayers.:)

I think we all went through those feelings. But to run away; well, that will only get yourself further away from being healthy. I started my weight loss journey 2 1/2 years ago. I was afraid, too. I live in Wisconsin and went to Texas to have my surgery. I was lucky enough to find a FANTASTIC surgeon and I to this day, still fly down there for all my fills. You need to remember, the band is just a tool; it is up to you to use it correctly. But I think you're ready. Bless your little heart; I've been there and now how scarey it is. I started at 305# and now I'm at 127#. I will keep you in my prayers and hope all went well for you!!

Michele

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
